why do people hate hippies?

Yup, Well, i've met someone who gives his reason as being that they're all pot smoking dreamers.

Well TBH, I don't smoke pot, but i'm still a hippie. Also, this is the same person who makes offencive slurs about Muslims, Wiccans, The Scots, the welsh, The Irish, the Spanish, the Germans...well, anyone really.

Treehuggers? Surely our love of nature is something people could love about us.

 

People don't like to see other people having fun, and they also have sensitve noses.

 

because the people who hate us are not happy with themselves so they have to cut us down. it's the whole bully mentality thing.
plus, they are afraid of change.

 

I wear my peace necklace to school every day. Whenever people see it they automatically shout "hippie" at me (which personally I see as a compliment) then try and beat me up.
Isn't it ironic how the peace sign can make people want to hurt me?

i think their jealous... i mean its a strong thing to say but what else you know?
they dont get to just LIVE, and love nature and love. and be able to just be FREE.

I think some people hate hippies mainly because they can't be as free as we are-as open-minded and happy...they don't have what to fight for, they don't know the way to peace and inner and outer harmony...that's why they envy.Because we know how to live and they don't

 

They hate hippies because hippies are communists, and god knows nothing's worse than a communist, especially when they dress funny.

 

Perhaps they hate us because...well let's face it unique people always scare conformists. It intimidates them...God knows why!
Perhaps we're so happy and full of love they just assume that we're going to double cross them when they least expect it and they're just being wary.

 

People are always afraid of anything that might change the status quo or threaten their power.

 

Hehe, this thread reminds me of last night. Someone I know (I wouldn't exactly call him a friend, but we talk occasionally) said to me "remember, I hate hippies, but you are the only hippie I love." I wasn't exactly certain if I should feel offended or flattered . Anyway, I agree with some of the other posters here. It all stems from fear. Some people do not understand the lifestyle, and so hatred breeds from their misunderstanding. Also, many people think of the stereotypical "pot-smoking, dirty hippie" and feel that all people who promote peace are like that. In other words, people are just plain judgemental.

 

jeebis that is some bitter hateful stuff, this guys not from chicago is he cuz i am and theres a lot of that spew goin around.

let's talk about why people should love hippies.
we leave lots of extra packages garbage for consumers to consume.
provided we have money we're the librarys highest paying customers.
all the gold diggers ignore us leaving them available for the sugar daddies.
we rarely strive for more than blue collar wages.
we're so zen we can live in acceptance that we have to share our beautiful home and species with a bunch of gluttonous property-claiming capitalist viral gaia stompers.

i love people who hate me...they make me a stronger and better person. so i think we should thank them for being them and hating us the way that they do.

people who hate us, whether it be our ideals, faults, bad reputations or just the way we look are completely lost. What do they plan to teach thier children? Hate these people, those people, but love us??? WTF?? Granted whatever bogus religion they belong to they are told specifically to LOVE all of thier brothers and sisters, no matter what background they come from, no matter what they preach, or if they annoy the living crap out of you...you still have to love them. Now, how is that so f*cking hard?!?
Throw them a smile every once in a while to show the haters that you still care about them even though they hate you with every fiber of their being. Hate is not worth any amount of anything. Hate is the most worthless human emotion on this and any other planet.

btw, when i tell ppl about hippies, they are very suprized "do they still exist????" and then ask trying to joke thing like "do ya live in a van then?"
