Before reading what I have to say, I would like for you have some idea of what kind of person I am. I ask a lot of questions. Mainly to my school teachers, who are often either dumbfounded or impressed at the things I wonder. I spend most of my days hanging with friends, listening to music, or watching tv. I think that is typical for a girl my age. Most of my time lately, however, has been devoted to the lovely living room dish-operating television set. I'm either watching Science, History,or CNN [unless The Girls Next Door or Simple Life are on]]. Boredom is my drug, and the world around me is my habit. And furthermore, I try very hard to use correct punctuations. ______________________________________________________________ Today I was sitting by the pool with my best friend. We were accompanying two older men that were swimming/cleaning the pool; dear friends of the family. The temperature had risen nearly 10 degrees fahrenheit within the past hour or two, which was by then 100 degrees F at 2:00pm. After some comments, not to mention complaints, about the heat , my mind wondered off to the concern of global warming in the world. I began rambling, "I wish the people as a whole would pitch in to the care of our environment," "There are so many simple, simple things in everybody's everyday life that we could change, that would make such a massive difference in our environment, and little in our daily lives," "It's a shame that America produces 25% of the world's pollution, and being just the third largest population." I was only bickering to myself really, but the men approached to me about it much more sincerely than I had expected. They said to me; well basically: I am so young. Protesting, smoking a joint, and bickering will never solve anything. The best thing for me to do is to get an education. ... I argued, it wouldnt matter if I tried, yadayada, scientists don't matter when the government and entertainment media control the human population anyway, blah blah. .. But their points were more effective than mine.. The white man told me that the Earth could send us back or forward millions of years by countless causes. He described to me a theory to which drilling oil led to the ceasing of a volcanic erruption. By his description, it made a lot of sense. The black man made a reference to Martin Luther King. He highlighted the importance of a single man. He also told me if the government is my enemy not to join it, because if I open my mouth for something I truely stood for, it coudle bring to worlds of trouble concerning treason. The conversation was of course longer and more in depth, but I'm not online to write a novel. I differentiated the men by race because I am annoyed by obvious biased subjects, and I am a terrible hypocrite. As I was on my way home I was thinking a lot about what I could do to make a difference. My ultimate advantage was my own knowledge. I got home and grabbed a few books, which I check out from the local library that were nearly due. [I have been recently fascinated by reading, and was infact reading about the health and understanding of my own body.] When I got to the library I went straight to the back corner, as always, the 500-600s. I began searching for whatever useful information I could find about the environment. First I picked out a book about statistics. That had a lot of intersting information, however it was a text book; making it difficult to fallow, and the copywrite was 2000, which I don't think is a very appropriate source of stats. for me to be spending valuable time sponging. Valconos, Global Warming, Galaxies.. I checked out two books today. The Fourth State of Matter by Ben Bova and Wild Edibles of Missouri the library will be shutting down the computers now so crap uuugh conlcuding WE ARE THE NEW GENERATION LEARN SOMETHING NEW AND READ THE FOURTH STATE OF MATTER.. ill get back to this later
this thread wasnt for me, it was for my generation. because we have a lot ahead of us and id like to be prepared... and for gods sake man is incredible he's created the unimaginable ...but u know that.. so why stop the chain of knowledge because one day the old folks will be gone and we'll be all thats left why not take advantage of our capabilities and hell im just a C average student but i still believe i'll find a cure for cancer
there already is a cure for cancer - just eat some seeds of fruit (bar orange and lemon). keep looking if you seek - you shall find.
I don't think we've created the unimaginable. I mean, it was imagined at some point. It's all kind of a natural extension of some other idea, and everyone keeps doing it because it's what we've always done. There's no real point in wondering who we really are or why we're doing what we're doing or who is responsible or how we can stop it, because no one really knows. Maybe things will work out, and maybe they won't. I think it's always been that way... so there's really no use in fighting it.
but we know what we need to survive, and anybody with a great respect for LIFE would use their resources wisely ...if u ask me
Kind of like how people know that drugs are bad for them, and anyone with respect for themselves wouldn't use them?
right people polute because it makes their lives easier ..when we burn excessive amounts of fuels we are fucking us over in the long run.. people use drugs to enhance their lives, wether it be mentally or physically.. ...but then they take too much or the wrong kind, naturally they hurt themselves so in the light i say im proud that i recycle my cans bottles and newspapers and i know when 'enough is enough'
We influance each other, but what one does is one's own choice. "Bobby made me do it" doesn't cut it on the kindergarden playground. I don't see that "Evil societal influance made me do it" lessens a person's responsibility for what they do.
Yes. Kind of. If Bobby didnt tell me to do it, I may or may not have. But that he infact did is an absolute factor in my desicion. This could also be a 2 sided subject. In the case being wether the outcome was positive or negative. I tell the teacher bobby told me to throw rocks. he doesnt have to stand on the line for 15min during recess like me, but he will be scolded for it. As well as, I'm the one finally devoting my time to reading science books. The men aren't reading, but they inspired me, so I give them credit. Which is why I want us to influence eachother.
Oh, yes. People should influance other people for good. And they should realize that their actions are their own.
Oh but if there is such a natural cure, surely that doesn't count. For how will the giant, greedy unaccountable corporations profit their bigwig stockholders on natural cures? There is a saying that if it isn't on TV, it isn't real. Talking about the typical stupidity of the average American moron, too lazy to read or research anything. And guess who controls what gets on TV? That's right, but a handful of giant, unaccountable, power-hungry corporations.
