Hey everyone. I've been veg*n for 3+ years, but now I face a situation I've never encountered before: Veganism abroad. In February, I'll be traveling with my school's foreign language department to Toledo, Madrid, and Paris for a total of ten days. I have no idea what I'll be able to eat over there, much less how to let servers/etc. know what I can and cannot eat. I am fairly proficient in Spanish (I took a college Spanish class this year) and can explain my lifestyle in Spanish, but know absolutely no French. Are there any phrases I should know? I'm really nervous; I don't want this to take away from the experience. Also, will Customs or what not stop me if I have Luna bars and such in my luggage? I've never left the country before, and I don't know any of the restrictions and such. Thank you all so much! ♥
I am a vegetarian -Je suis végétarien As for spain, I went to tenerife which is a spanish island, and food wise there it was fine (i was omni then but the selections of foods out and about were fine) Possibly, the thing you'll have to look out for in france/spain are the cheeses in the dishes, not too sure how clued up about veganism, also in spain they're very fond of ham. Here's a link about eating in spain as a vegetarian (can't find one about veganism which is as good so you'll have to adapt it a little bit) http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/information/the_vegetarians_survival_guide_to_spain/ Be carefull of the cheeses in france anyway as they almost all contain rennet (just incase you have vegetarian friends who don't know about it) Pulled this up on google - top 10 tips on surviving in france : http://www.frenchentree.com/fe-vegetarians/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=136 have a good time
