I'm sorry - I had mice & voles in my old house. MILLIONS I think!

I started by using one of those traps where they jump in & it tips up so they can't jump out. Somebody didn't read the instruction manual to the mice, because they figured out how to jump out.

Then I moved on to those rodent-deterrant thingies that you plug in, and they're supposed to emit some supersonic noise that scares mice away. Again, my mice were defective; they must have all been deaf.

I borrowed my MIL's cat for a week - I was told that the smell of a cat in your house would keep mice away. The cat must have been defective too, because I woke up one morning to find 3 mice swimming in the cat's water bowl, and the stupid cat sitting on the top of the counter afraid to go near them.

I was getting desperate, so we had someone come in & smoke 'em out with fumigation poisons. This worked... for a whole week! But it left my son & I camping out at my parents' house, sick as a dog for a week. And then the mice came back anyway - and brought their cousins with.

So then after about 4 months I got desperate. I picked up those little metal traps, and a jar of peanut butter. It was gross & messy and yeah, they all died. I was emptying mice from 16 traps TWICE every day - and there were still more. I'm afraid I can't be much help; even resorting to killing them, I couldn't manage to get rid of them all!
    love,
    mom

I usually buy one of those humane traps which traps the mouse in a box and you can release them into a field or whatever.

Is it a family of mice or just a couple?

the guy at home depo looked at me like i was a freak when i asked for a humane way of capturing rats to later free them. It eventually just went away.... perhaps b/c of the sound thing I bought like you described.

but thats different. sometimes you have to kill, for survival, especailly if you have children. Would you ask a lion not to eat your babies or would you grab something and try and kill it, in the case it was in your safe zone (and no they do not cuddle strangers). sometimes it just comes down to it. Pray for the animal though, if you must kill it, but know that it is life's way for one to survive in the absense of another.

I think it's a small family that invited themselves because I'm away quite alot..

They remind me of The Borrowers! They hate being seen but are so aware that their new(ish) home has been invaded by this two-legged monster.. They're nibbling things but I haven't found out what yet :(

Sorry, I've have a sneaky giggle at your story..
