ha kid someone is challenging your views your not used to that are you. you ridicule but you cannot dissprove anything I wrote
Kay, so I've been reading a few of your posts (FedUpAmerican and Humanman) and yeah, you guy's have got some great points made. BUT you're pretty much just looking at the bible and showing people what it really says. It's not even telling lies. Is there a point preaching to blind sheep who can't think for themselves? They haven't noticed they're horribly wrong yet, how is smacking them in the head with it going to help? Edit: Okay nvm about FedUpAmerican, you pretty much just go on a self righteous regurgitated rant about hitler and how much other poeple suck cause they don't share your view.
Yup, they sure can dish out the same tired lines (bible quotes) over and over, but they sure can't take it back at them, can they? Notice to all: If you have NOTHING to contribute to futher this discussion (and other threads in this forum), then don't bother to post - esp. postings criticising people for expressing how they feel about Christianity or posting up FACTS about Christianity that Christians don't like to hear. I'm really tired of seeing nothing but personal criticism from certain individuals. If you don't like the subject then don't post. Criticising others for what they post is very close to personal insults, and the idea behind it is to get those critical of Christianity to stop posting. Well that's not about to happen, so just get used to it, or go elsewhere for your Christian Bible study.
Skip: Personal criticism cuts both ways. While I do not get drawn in to name calling, I have read it on both sides. Religious views must bring out strong feelings in people. I do not believe that "those critical of christianity" will stop posting because of personal insults nor do I think that believers would stop posting, yet, sometimes the rants are so meaningless that they do not merit a response, such as the one that leads off this thread. My question to you is this. What harm would there be to the full freedom of ideas if anything goes? It's your forum and you set the rules, so, why is it that what appears to be non-believers are making bible quotes which are against the rules? I though you wanted views stated "in your own words".
If you noticed, the first post in this thread contained PARAPHRASED summaries of the biblical passages, NOT direct quotes, which is just fine. It means someone actually READ the passages and summarized them in their own words. I guess that's just too much to ask Christians to do, cause it actually requires an INDEPENDENT thought process. And YOU have done NOTHING to further this discussion, and IN FACT did exactly what I asked ppl NOT TO DO. So you are banned for awhile. Anyone else?
Yeah. You talk about personal criticism not being allowed as well as personal insults but you both call me a christian. Contradiction much?
I think these kinds of arguments fail to take into account that the Bible is foremost intended as a historical document. Just because The Bible depicts an angry, vengeful God at one time doesn't mean that God stayed that way forever, and is still the same way. It also doesn't mean that the passage was intended to be taken literally, because history didn't necessarily need to be captured in a perfectly objective fashion in order to be understood at the time of writing. If you're going to criticize aspects of the Bible, then please keep in mind that these passages were written at various times throughout history, so of course it's not all going to click with what people believe in our time! Almost everything we know can and has changed immeasurably over the last few thousands of years... and you can't expect that the understanding of the people in the Bible was exactly the same as the understanding of you and me. I mean, a great percentage... I'd say about 70-80 percent of EVERYTHING we know now, and of everything we value, and the WAY we understand things is rooted in the value systems and technological developments of the twentieth century. Measuring an ancient text by those standards, and assuming that everything was meant to be taken exactly as we with our 20th/21st century minds understand it is ludicrous. When you take something like the Bible, it's impossible to actually understand what was meant without knowing a great deal about the culture and the language and the communication styles of the people for whom it was written. Not to mention everything that's been misinterpreted or 'lost in translation'. I think we should all try to be more open minded about that... Christians and non-Christians alike.
Why tarnish those ever respectable authors by equating their works with the bible? Come Fedup, at least THOSE fairy tales were harmless!
Let's worship Humpty Dumpty! I'm all for it! But can we be sure Cheney isn't really Humpty Dumpty in disguise? When he falls it's gonna be a BIG MESS! And all king George's horses and men won't be able to put him back together again!
