    Hell if I know.

But I'm not dumb, I'm very smart.

Well, people here are generally more narrow-minded.

I don't know if that helps in answering your question.

But in taking an overview of the Southern states:

    We are more narrow-minded.

It doesn't mean that all of are, because I'm so open minded that I'm afraid one day my fucking brain will just fall out, you know?

And most of Southerns are Puritan to the core. When it comes to Religion as the base of everything that they do. But they are hypocritical puritans. What's real funny, is one day (this is hypothetical, not the situation), my friend and I decided to "crash" an Abortion ralley downtown. We thought it'd be funny if we argued with all of the "puritans", whatever. Well, the main girl giving her "Anti-Abortion" speech, talking about abstaining from sex and drugs that render your conscious and make you vulnerable, and blah, blah, blah. Well, two days before the ralley, I had an abortion and the same day that I did, I saw that girl, the one giving the speech, and I recognized her at the ralley. She told me at the clinic that that was her sixth abortion. It's hypothetically funny, right? I found my little niche of liberal, democrat friends that I hang out with and we do liberal, alternative things. Underground things. Because they are not so popular yet with most of the tail-gaitin', aligator-wrestlin', deer-huntin', squirrel-eatin', chauvinistic, hypocritical Southern bigots. I can make fun of them, because I know these individuals. And it's sad to say that I am from Alabama. But the CITY that I am from, I'm proud to be from here. I love Mobile. It's generally moderate, but leaning more toward liberal tendencies. And if you are a meth-head, you can get real good meth here. Although I am not one of them.

i dont think its a fact of rich vs poor.. poor people can be just as smart as rich people.. its called public schooling.. yea yea you say some schools arent as well funded as others.. but still you can learn as much as YOU want to learn with the books given by your schools.. you are in charge of how much you want to learn

    Oh that is gross.

    Trust me, that doesn't happen.

Well, there was a story on the news a few years back.

But it was father-daughter & they were on serious drugs.

And I think they were from Arkansas.

So, next to none, this doesn't happen!

    At least, not in Alabama.

That is the original quote, I meant you could interchange things into it. Why the smart stay smart, why the dumb stay dumb. I didn't mean to make a generalization about poor people being dumb, because in no means do I think this.

Well, I agree somewhat with this. This logic is only seen in small, rural areas. You know those creepy "Middle-of-Nowhere" places you'll sometimes drive through. Me and a friend drove through some road in Mississippi called Pretty Petal Lane, and I don't understand it, because we saw weird shit all over the road. It was like the Mississippi Chainsaw Massacre. Or the Houses Have Eyes, you know. We saw a group of real, 100% rednecks (something I've never seen before in my entire life in Mobile, Alabama) and we asked for directions. The generalization y'all have been describing, the typical stereotypes... y'all are thinking in terms of these small, very small one-church towns. In the bigger cities, people are much more assimilated. This isn't always true. Bright lights do tend to bring out the flea-infested rednecks with pot-bellies, but in general, the city folk are more assimilated and educated. We're not just a bunch of pro-bono lawyers and truck pit service stations and witch doctors.

Well still its either.. you are not living in the city.. where its almost nothing but backwoods redneck folk.. or you live in suburbia of a big city.. or you live in the inner city of these big cities.. and then you're living a more ghetto life... so figure theres only 5-15% good living area(suburbia) in these southern states.. where intellect is above the 85-90IQ range and living conditions are comfortable

i live in southern louisiana, close enough to baton rouge and N.O. that you can go to either in under an hour. There are quite a few of the red neck good ol' boys. My stepmom is a doctor and deals with ALOT of them, she cant stand them. Some of my friends are slightly red necks so i'm impartial to em, the worst of em piss me off horribly tho. An equal if not bigger problem than the red necks is the ghetto people tho, they hold quite a big percentage of the population around where i am. You can say its b/c of public schooling, but thats bullshit. I go to a private school and have tons of friends that go to public school. Public school kids are able to take classes that are basicly
equal to our normal classes in private school. btw i go up to mobile every once in a while, used to alot more than now days. loved the town and the beach, best friends grandparent used to live up there before katrina and had a house that was walking distance from the beach!

The south has a long history of being poor, I would think that poured over into our education system, our public education system here really isnt good at all.
I am from Tenneessee, I think we are 48th when it comes to public education?

I do think its safe to say there are idiots everywhere, I dont think there are more of them concentrated in the south, and I wouldnt rely so heavily on statistics because...as they say..47.3 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
As far as general IQ goes, I highly doubt everyone in these said states took an IQ test.

There has to be a link between our poverty, education and us being "so dumb."

"Nothing is political, everything's economic" My grandfather said that last night and its so true. Lack of funds, testing being aimed at white, middle class, and then the whole "culture of poverty" and expectations and blah blah blah blah blah. You'd think they'd make the state name easier to spell if all it's people are dum dum's

    hahahaha

i've been to tennessee and it does seem like the problem of "rednecks" is bigger in small towns. hell, it's like that in illinois, too. the further north you go, like toward chicago, the more liberal everything gets, and the towns get bigger too. i think a lot of it does have to do with tradition.... it takes a long time to break tradition, especially in a really rural area where there's really no outside influence.

    1. The economy of the South has traditionally been much more dependent on agriculture, simply because of the fact that the south has much better conditions for growing cash crops than say New England, an area which is filled with hills, has extremely rocky soil, and a short growing period. The result of all this is that the skill set of families that have had success in the South and stay down there is generally not as well suited to most of our standard means of measuring intelligence.

    2. A solid point that someone already pointed out is that the South has been poor for generations and therefore the public education is subpar. This lack of wealth goes back to the civil war/reconstruction, the result of their loss of slavery as a social/economic institution and the complete decimation of much of the region's infrastructure during Sherman's march. So I guess you could say that they are still recovering from the asskicking they got from us Yankees.

Ignoring any potential foreign relations problems that it would create, maybe they should take some of those bastards we have rotting away in Guantanamo and put them in a chain gang picking cotton for some of those red necks in Alabama.:eek:sama: Maybe then they could spend some more time hittin' the books. Just a thought.

    Oh, how clever is this?

As far as me "generalizing Republicans" goes. The fact of the matter here, since I do live in Alabama and a huge bulk of the voting population here are Republicans, solely because the Republicans seem fit for all the Christian hypocrites that live in the Bible Belt. It's something that I have to deal with every time I get out on the road to go anywhere, there's reminders of Christianity and the Republicans. So, sure, I've grown disattached from all of this, because both groups violate my personal standards. And since I am virtually stuck here, living amongst warmongerers and Bush supporters, I admit, I'm out-numbered. And severely pissed that I am out-numbered. So, as for me generalizing Republicans, I'll take it all back when I meet a good amount of Republicans who aren't exactly like Bush in almost every way. A lot of people here in the South worship the guy and stand behind him and all of his "ethical and moral values, and all that other steaming piles of bullshit". So, I'll take it back if I meet sensable, rational, maybe radical Republicans. Just as much as y'all can take back the generalization of the Southern states that EVERYBODY that lives below the Mason Dixon line are backwood rednecks. Because that is entirely not true. So, if someone can prove me wrong as I am proving a few of the people on here wrong, then it'll all be good.
