Hi Everyone I belong to a Yahoo group about island living, and I couldn’t believe what the founder Cheyenne Morrison wrote about another group member when she called him on his sexist behavior. He accused her of being sexually frustrated and stupid just because she thought it was wrong for his description of an “island lover” to include lusting after teenage girls in grass skirts! What a caveman. “Islomaniacs can invariably be found at beach bars or tiki huts, and their perfect mates are lithe brown-skinned island maidens often half their age (if they are lucky).” -Cheyenne Morrison She just said that this was insensitive considering how exploited these young South Pacific women are by Western tourists (Fiji and Tonga are child prostitution hotspots), and he completely attacked her. Considering he’s supposed to be the world’s most famous island broker, this is totally appalling. Here is something else he said: “The latest from the parasite: …Lucky sounds rather frustrated! Is s/he missing out on something? J S/he is certainly missing out on the gift of brain power as this definition was squarely aimed at those among us who still have a sense of humour.” There are so many horrible crimes against women committed every minute that sexist behavior sometimes seems almost trivial. But battling these kinds of misogynistic attitudes and control issues is an important place to start! Let’s all send an email to this guy and tell him to grow up and get used to the 21st century. Amy
theres worse sexist pigs right here on hipforums who need a lil shaking awake too that is rather appalling but in deffence of island girls half my age i do feel pretty damn lucky i have 1 i love to death, but certainly WAS NOT from a child prostitution ring i do however disagree with this There are so many horrible crimes against women committed every minute that sexist behavior sometimes seems almost trivial. sexist behavior in no way seems trivial its all one in the same problem that allows the crimes against women to go on
hmm I dont know what to reply about this. Yeah I do think the teenager comment was wrong, but I live in an island and it´s kinda hard to tell who´s pursuing who, we even have a term for them "sanky panky", but not really to that extreme because that's kind of a sad reality of tourist towns, it's really for guys, who end up prostutuing themselves to foreigners (men and women) for money.. they kind form a relationship based on money, you pay, and I hang out with you... but the terms has spread to girls too and on a lighter note, it\s men and women who pursue foreigners, usually for economical reasons or the he'll get me out of here.. I've seen it way too many times. So it's hard to say who is pursuing who, they can be young, very young (usually from 16 up tho) but fear their interest and all they know and do not call them girls, this are women who know how to seduce and manipulate.. I know it doesnt sound nice but is reality, I see it everyday, I used to live in a hotel, I know the mentality and the reasons behind it. It is sad that living conditions here in DR have to be so bad to some people that comes to this extent (only talking about here in DR, because that's what I know) and it is sad that some people take advantage from it.. but who is taking advantage of who? I've SEEN this girls and the ohh baby I love you.. smile point at the pretty necklace in the window and the guy is domesticated that doesnt even ask.. you want it, but runs in and gets it. They are BOTH using each other for different reasons.
yeah Im not... and what I said before has nothing to do with my own behaviour.. I am nothing like that, just needed to clear that. but yeah there had been fun "relationships" with other guys, doubled my age, (well two other, that was making it sound like many) and it was mainly just about sex, and fun, and laid back.. and it was ok, but im 21, so its different. But that's a whole other thing, just saying is not always wrong and this doesnt have anything to do with the relationships I was talking about before...and locals are way more sexist, at least here.
ahh & theres my island girl now & yes hun i know your right in that absolutely & its a problem not only in the islands but in many disadvantaged countries
ohh i know the people you run into everywhere you go are total pigs not all ofcourse you do know a few really decent people but the average guy on the street there are rediculously sexist when buying a candy bar at a local store comes with a sexual proposition 9 times out of 10 theres something sinister festering deep within the culture
yeah.. i hate walking down the street, they make you feel like a piece of meat. i mean i never ever wear lets say a mini skirt when i know ill be walking because that means ill be shout with everything and get all kinds of looks, just makes you feel really uncomfortable. I mean you are wearing jeans and they still do, so why make it worse... when I was in NY, I was happy people didnt even notice it was ohh so free, except for this one occasion. but ok im derailing from the topic, just maybe the guy isnt that bad
'mike1reynolds' is another sexist pig; check out his responses in this thread: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242173&page=1&pp=10 to quote a bit: "Girls are ready to marry at a young age, but men are not ready to marry until they have played the field and have had their heart genuinely ripped out. Only with such experiences can you truly take the commanding dominate role with a girl that is absolutely required for real fatherhood in a genuinely healthy and functional relationship. All women are Hell cats at a certain level deep down inside and they have to be shown who the boss is. This requires a thick skin. Ultimately all women will turn their noses up at sweetness if you haven’t shown them who the boss is yet. Only after they have been man handled emotionally will they truly purr inside when you are sweet to them. Before that, they just do not truly respect your sweetness too them." I'm still trying to work out whether he's joking or not...:S
there's actually days i wear sweats and loose shirts just so guys DON'T honk at me or try to talk me into their cars. never works. . im TIRED of not feeling safe around MY OWN HOME. ive been through the most obscene, rude, apalling situations....
About the original quote: I really don't think you can measure other countries and other cultures by our value system. I don't think the guy's response was sexist either... I really don't think he was attacking the fact that what's-her-face is a woman... more the fact that she sounds really uptight and needs to loosen up. Telling people they need to get laid is a pretty common way to suggest that someone might need to relax, and there's no point in getting upset and causing controversy over it! AND From what I've read here, I think I agree with him!
the way you "feminists" talk always amuses me....so many are willing to "liberate" (enslave) themselves by sleeping with men who don't love them, but when men express shallow sentiments about a woman's sexuality, they get all pissed...maybe all o' yall are just really shallow and need to own up to it? opinions, however much you may dislike them, are not a "crime".....yet.
