People label everything, including other people. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is a bad thing when people judge others on purely how they look. Most people don't see beneath the first layer, and you must learn to live with it.

There is also a subconscious aspect too to judgement. We subconciously as well as conciously judge people, and how we judge people subconciously is entirely up to what we were brought up to expect. For example, in our society there is a stigma against men with long hair. If you are a male and have long hair and cut it, you will rarely, probably never, receive more complements in as short of amount of time as you will when people see that you have cut your hair as you would by doing something else in the same given situation.
