I'm really surprised at this board. Out of 19 pages of Favorite Jam Bands no one has listed FLOWMOTION Grateful Dead fans would love their lyrics and spirt they cary with them. Phish fans would love their funky grooves, jamming, segues and outstanding musicianship. Worth checking them out. Not many people into John Butler Trio as well. This board needs to get out of the cave and check out a ton of great new jam bands. Don't see many RAQ fans either. I'd think the Phish lovers would be going crazy over this amazing act. Especially since they are out of Burlington VT.
I'd respectfully suggest that on post four, you are not insulting a board. Many of us DO get "out of a cave" and check out bands. Some of these posters are kids too young to get into bars and see the up and comers. I could just as easily condemn you for not mentioning my particular favorites.
Never heard of Flowmotion but ill check 'em out. As for John Butler, he's good but doesnt do a whole lot for me. For RAQ I have heard them a good deal but can't find anything really unique or exciting about them. There are so many jambands, and everyone has their favorites (I love Umphrey's Mcgee but I don't like the Disco Buscuits) - It's all opinion. -but if you don't like umphrey's, you have no musical taste!
how bout Ekoostik Hookah at Hookahville and especially with Ratdog. now we are talking. Love PhisH, Love the Dead but let's face it, there are others.
Wheres the love for THE MOTET? afrobeat, jazz, jam, rock, electronic. They bring a lot to the table and their sax player is the fire. I get extremely bored with Moe, ALO, Panic, and even the biscuits at times. although they have their moments (disco biscuits that is), MY favorite jam band would have to be The Motet. go to archive and d/l the show from 4-29-2007. the 4-22-2007 is longer and has more material, but i think the 4-29 may sound a wee bet better in terms of quality. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=collection:TheMotet AND year:"2007" paste that in your browser and check out some shite! They are totally tubular, and put on a fantastic performance. Honorable Mention goes to: THE EVERYONE ORCHESTRA. With a always rotating lineup of THE most talented musicians at fests, the everyone orchestra is the ultimate "jam" band. These two, are WITHOUT a doubt my top two favorite jam bands around today.
not to mention Steve Kimock Band. Im suprised nobody else has mentioned them yet. Grateful Dead fans would LOVE them. They also deserve a post lol
my favs are: the dead allman brothers (esp. before duane's death) widespread panic string cheese dave matthews p groove bela fleck and the flecktones i also like phish and moe but to a lesser degree as their music gets old and the mindless noodling starts to annoy me sometimes. whoever said widespread panic was going downhill hasnt seen them since jimmy herring started playing with them.
The Grateful Dead not really a band, but when Bruce Hornsby and Bela Fleck played on "Austin City Limits"....freaking awesome!!!!!
I havn't heard him yet with jfjo so i can't make any judgements, but I love Jason's drumming so much that it's hard for me not to be pessamistic. I have only heard good things so far about the new guy though. For some reason that makes me even more mad.
i get to see the fred here in about a week at Dogstock Fest (cant believe JFJO hasnt cancelled yet) and am TOTALLY pumped for Josh Raymer (new drummer) i have heard only great things about this kid and im sure he is bad ass to replace Smart (one of my faves btw) and if you havent noticed already by my username, i love the Fred lol
The Grateful Dead are definately not a jamband as previously stated. Its like when they call Pink Floyd progressive rock. Theres Pink Floyd and then theres "progressive rock" Theres The Grateful Dead and then theres jambands(of various types of course).
