haha that was the 1st animation thingy i ever tried..lol made it for the local philly rainbow site (which needs serius updating, so dont bother looking at it..lol)
oh just so folks know there are still 2 sets of directions being sent around pointing to 2 seperate sites but it seems like this is unoficialy official or officialy onoficial..or whatever, but this site is the 1 everyones going to
Born and raised on the madison county line in arkansas.....and I welcome you family........PLUR...also if any one in the pope county area needs a lift or aything out....hit me up........
nonhippie, I feel your pain. How do we know Moses had a soft spot deep in his heart for Pharoh? He never cursed Egypt with a plague of hippies. And believe you me, a lot of us hippies would rather not be going to Rednecksville, AR. BUT, it looks like we're stuck with each other for the time being, so let's make the best of it, shall we?
at least the hippies will be leaving a nice chunk o'green in the area...I gotta wonder how many business owners have retired & passed the business down to the kids after a Gathering was near their small town..I know that folks with the hot springs/cafe in Nevada did after the '89 Annual, they were the only thing within 30 miles...
From the people of Clarksville, I'd like to say welcome home! 1I'm sure many here will be glad for any local buisness the gathering generates and there are a few freaks here as well who'll be glad to have it so close to home. Last year I drove over 1000 miles and this year the gatherings almost in my backyard, far out!
Last year was my first gathering and I'm not sure if I know how to help out really, I only gathered sticks and worked a bit in one of the krishna kitchens, but since I live so close (Clarksville's about 30 min from Fallsville) and am job free atm I was wondering what kinda of help people might need who are arriving early to setup. I have carpal tunnel so I can't lift heavy stuff or do much repetitive so I'm not sure I would be of much use. Also I would like to thank the people here who talked me into going last year, it was a great and unique experience.
Diode, you can help loads with allowing all the influx to really know the area and it's people. We might be heading for forest, but there's a lot of state around it! Would you mind starting a thread about the area with links to local news and stuff like that?
diode another thing you can do as a local being familiar with local store owners & such you can prepare the locals for whats to come, i'm sure theyve been approached already but someone they know may be able to talk to them easier. as a general rule we will go around to local stores before the gatherings & not only talk to them about what to stock up on like bulk food items but we also go around & request that they keep track of anything that is shoplifted & offer reimbursment (shoplifting has never been known to increase significantly & theyre always overjoyed with the proffits they make so reimbursments never needed but the offer & reassurance goes a long way towards freindly relations & cooperation) you can educate locals in what to expect & can write letters to the editor of local papers in responce to any negative media attention received. as a local theres so much you can do that doesnt require taking shovel in hand & digging a shitter... but keep in mind that when communicating with with locals & especialy media it should be done as a group & not an individual so try to work with other rainbows especialy those with experience. what you can do as a job at the gathering that would be most helpful would be to work at welcome home or info (welcome home maybe the most useful) being both a local & family you can assist in difusing any dissension, & clear up misunderstandings. you can also really help people who arrive to be prepared for what to expect on site, & local weather as well as help rainbows understand the attitudes of locals like nohippie & others who may not be as open minded (and dont realize the massive potential boom to the local economy) but the most important thing you can do is educate people like nohippie on the possitive aspects of family & try to dispell all the negative stereotypes. everything u do for family has equal importance wether its lifting heavy objects or opening 1 closed mind (im not accusing nohippie of closemindedness i understqand how it must feel to have 20,000 people you dont understand & perhaps even fear descend on your home. i just know that if you take the time to sit down & have a conversation with a few of the people who you assume you dont want there then you may just find that your glad they showed up in your back yard & touched your life forever. or you'll at least discover they arent as bad as you assummed they were. for after all arent some of us your neighbours & freinds, & some freinds who u never would have met if we hadnt shown up in your back yard? nohippie i really think you should try to look at this as an opportunity not a hassle. look at it as a chance to meet & understand a different type of folks then u might meet everyday. if you understand alittle more about humanity as a whole from the experience then how has it negatively impacted you? i know in ways it can be a hassle, increased traffic, longer lines at stores, more unusual (and therefore suspicious automatically because of theyre unusualness) people around the neighbourhood may lessen your sence of security & control of your local environment.. i understand that you feel like your being invaded by something you never asked for.. but try to see the possitives in it.
im so bleh i cant make it this year, but my heart and soul is gunna be with you guys out in israel , prayin for this great mother earth from out there.. true and true.
Hello Diode!!!!! I want to give you a big Rainbow Hug just for asking what kinds of help you can offer!!! HUG! :grouphug:
Diode, you don't say much about what you can do, but here's an example of what a bro did, at the MT Gathering in '00. A local mechanic felt some sympathy for all the broke hippies with brokedown vehicles. But early July is time to make hay in that part of the country, and he had to keep all the farmer's equipment working in the fields so everybody could get paid. But he worked out a trade with a Rainbow mechanic. He let this bro use his shop after hours to get the hippie's clunkers on the road in trade for his labor on Farm equipment. Gosh, isn't that a great little rainbow story? Everybody wins. You a mechanic? Have a brother in law that's one? Maybe I gave you an idea?
yeah!!! until the gathering, at stores or churches talk to folks about the rainbow, ayyy u hear of these folks? you know, i hear they're mighty fine people, done lots of positive things around this earth, they sure did.. some church woman hearin some good word about the rainbow man... oooo~~~ that's some goood word waiting to be shared over tea or , some more church that'd be some gooood seed, warming up the town before the flocks if i could say so myself..
