That's a very broad subject, but I would have to say that Winamp with the MMD3 skin is the best software.
Yep - Firefox has to take the cake. I also like Trillian, and I don't want to say Word - but I've changed the assistant from the paperclip to the dog, and I love it!
yeah firefox hits the spot for most people. in all honesty, my favorite piece of software is probably Bash. I also like the xine-engine, gstreamer, Transmission, Beryl, Nmap, Yum, Nessus, vi, netcat, Amarok, and Kaffeine. There are many more i like, but you really werent very specific in your question so i put whatever i want.
this a broad subject at the top of my head I must say iptables mplayer vi amarok mysql shorewall Linux apt-get gftp snort spamassassin clamav nBox vmwareserver python ruby bind9 and much more nice software
It is a broad subject. For internet browsing, firefox. For music playback, winamp. And most of my music requirements is playback, hate bloated SW. For other functions, I'm not that versed in a whole many programs to comment. BTW Word is better with the assistant turned off entirely.
yeah Firefox rocks. XMMS for music. But the most used software on my computer is PySolfFC. Ha ha ha! Thats what I get for being a grandma. I do like the Open Office suite as I can do some nice things with my poetry easier than with some other word type programs. Like it better than word. But for straight text that I am gonna format later I use Vi. PySolFC is the fan club edition of the pysol solitaire program. I got my favorite music loaded in and I can rock-n-roll and play away and my cards don't get gunked up due to munchies just my keyboard. Which I gotta take care of tonite when I shut things down. Peace, Cricket
mine is probably "Fruity Loops" for music - 3ds max for 3d graphics and animation and "hirens boot cd" all the wares on that
BTW lolcode the future of computing I HAZ <filename> ... kthxbye http://lolcode.com/implementations/implementations as for what i use and love the most: blender. can't affort 3ds max or maya, lightwave, et c. blender does the job though. i used to use autocad 14.0, but blender is actually better for what i'm doing with it. otherwise, yes i'm relying on things that take me by the hand, like firefox to get on here with, and the xp os that came with my current machine. just don't have the resources of to get into all that 1337 stuff like linux. but i can read about it and have some idea what's going on. not accurate or in detail, but i do stumble accross names of things some times. a lot of things that are legitimately free are worth the price, but occassionaly you come accross something spicific to your own interests that are pure gold. like blender, rule the rail, and firefox (as an alternative to i.e. and a.o.hell) =^^= .../\...
How about some of the unsung programs that quietly sit by your system clock in the bottom right corner (assuming that, like most of the planet, you use Windows =P )? Daemontools isn't flashy, but it's one of the tools I very commonly use, and it's extremely functional, offering Securom and Safedisk emulation, and never having met a CD image it didn't like. The only other program I know of it like it is Alcohol 120%, which can actually do more on the image burning front, but is far clunkier for emulation. I don't think I've put together a computer in the last several years without putting Motherboard Monitor on it to make sure nothing's gone disasterously wrong, and it works with any and all makes and models of mobo I've used. And while more recent versions have become glitchy, I still stand by ZoneAlarm. It protects from all sorts of intrusions, including process accessing, trojans, and the usual firewall port protections. More reliable and wide spectrum coverage than any other firewall I've used.
I heart my VLC player. It's small. It's not pretty. It's sometimes doesn't like my EQ2 but it lets me watch .mov without having any apple crap on my box without giving me a hard time.
Gotta go with Ethereal.. it's got me free internet on many an occasion when I've been out and about. Also much love to bash, VLC and litestep when I have to use Winblows (makes it slightly more bearable, at least I don't have to look at that Godawful Luna interface. Windows Classic is only slightly better).
