When you call them on it, they deny it.

    "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed."

    "I'm not mad, I'm upset."

    "I'm not mad, I'm displeased."

Motherfucker, you're pissed as hell... quit denying the shit and admit to it. I know I'm not the only one who's noticed this. I don't know what it is. It's like people think that they're admitting to a weakness if they admit to being angry. I guess society has down a good job of demonizing and belittling angry people that it amounts to ridicule to actually realize it. Anger is one of the most basic of all emotions. It's primal. It's natural. Accept it. Those other words are just euphemisms.

This post was inspired by the article I read about ABC's firing of "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington and the whole gay slur debacle. His exact words: "I'm not angry, I'm disappointed." It's becoming cliche. I know he's angry. And then a few weeks, I was about to go to dinner with one of my pals from work when he got into it with his wife over some trivial shit. It was obvious, dude was heated, but he didn't like blow up or anything. So at dinner, he's giving me advice on my lady friend situation. He tells me that I shouldn't get angry and if I do, I should just walk away. And I called him on his anger moment a few moments, here's what he said... "I wasn't angry, I was displeased." wtf?

The world is becoming complex liars.

i get angry...not a lot, but when i do get angry, i let it be known that i'm pissed the fuck off. now, it takes a lot to get me angry

this morning i was angry...i was ready to rip my cousins head off for the shit he pulled. everyone knew it. i shouldn't have been driving afterwards, i wanted to run people off the road for going slow or not knowing where they were going because they are tourists...my dad had to calm me down

i still want to tear my cousins head off...

    You should watch less TV.

Go out there, and you'll see that there's a whole lotta anger, and only rich people with sticks up their asses are "displeased".

being "disapointed" sounds more condescending and patronizing that being "angry". therefore more insulting.

I think it's because anger has been associated with irrational behavior, insanity, violence, etc. that people don't want to admit to it. You can be angry and not be crazy.

    What's next?

    "I'm not happy, I'm pleased."
    "I'm not horny, I'm stimulated."
    "I'm not sad, I'm unhappy."

My mom and some friends are like that. It's how they may be conditoinal to me. You mentioning honesty is so true. If I'm mad I will say I am and I will get space so I can vent as I'm a nonviolent person. Eh.

People that resort to violene sadden me. It never has to be like that. People care but whatever, life can be fucked.

I wouldn't worry too much about what other people thought of me... just be the best you can no matter the mood.

When I say I'm not mad, I'm disappointed... that's exactly what I mean.

Because when I get mad, I won't have to tell you, and you won't have to tell me. My actions will show it.

The most I get is annoyed.

If I get mad, you must've done something real shady.

People are often told that being angry is wrong. That's why. Anger makes people ashamed or scared.

Of course, people accept anger easier... and I can understand you separating "angry" and "mad," because they're not always synonymous... but upset is the same thing as angry.
