True love is like being dettached from material possesions in a way.
Because true love does not ask for anything in return, not even love.
How can we claim to honestly love another person, if we dont have love
for everything and everyone as a whole?
Why do we get angry, annoyed, or upset with our significant other?
Why do we feel jealous of them, why do we distrust them when
they are giving undivided attention to another person?
It is because we dont really love them, we love ourselves.
Becuase if we did truly love them, we would not ask for emotions,
we would not ask for love to be given back to us.
It is like a person who writes poems and desires fame, and a person
who writes poems and cares not if anyone reads them.
You either desire praise in return for your effort, or you are happy with
what you are, not asking for anything else.
    Not desiring to better yourself.
How can you better yourself, without first understanding what it is
    that your truly are?
    Same with our family.
How do we love our children?
When our child is sick, we feel bad.
But do we feel bad for our children? Or do we feel bad for ourself?
If you really loved your child, you would not push them to be confined
    to the prison of conformity.
You would teach them to have unconditional love and to be free.
    Not to be like yourself.
And to truly be free, to truly have love, not divine love, or personal love,
but love of all without desire, we must create an atmosphere to live in
    that is free of fear.
Fear makes you conform, fear makes you want money, cars, a nice house,
a beautiful wife, a religion to believe in.

And what is religion, really? What is God?
Think of your mind like a window that has collected
the dust of many generations of superstition.
Do you know what a soul is?
Or do you know what youve been told a soul is?
Clean off the window, search for God yourself,
dont rely on what others have taught you.
Clean away all the dust, the illusion, wipe it
totally clean, and then, and only then, can you
truly see for yourself what God is.
God is not in a temple, God is not in an icon
or a statue. A statue is like a shadow
of the Truth, but it is not the Truth itself.
Just as a shadow of yourself is not really you.
Love, Freedom, Truth, God; these things can
only turly be understood by your person, your
ture Self, when you have no fear, when you
do not conform to the social machine that EVERYONE
around you is pushing you into.
We must be constantly in revolt, internally and
    externally.
Truth may only be discovered when we are constantly
in a state of dissatisfaction with everything.
But, we must know how to be in such a state of unrest and
dissatisfaction while maintaining and inner joy at the same time.
And you can not know that you are happy, that is not true happiness.
Happiness is felt only when you arent searching for it. And we
    are ALL searching for happiness.
It is like when we are having fun, time flies by and we live life
for what it really is; in the moment.
But the moment we notice we are feeling happy, the happiness
    fades and ceases to be.
So do not search for happiness, just live.
    As we can say to the student and the teacher;
    I AM ALWAYS LEARNING.
There is no enlightenment, no way to know everything,
even the teachers must be taught to dispell fear.
Fear will cause you decay and misery.
True Love and true Freedom is brought on by yourself
when you learn how to BE yourself, without desire to
    be like another (envy).
God is everywhere, but no one but yourself can
see for yourself what God is.

    I AM ALWAYS LEARNING.

this made me cry, just a couple of tears, not sure if they were happy or sad, it made me question many things, do I want to know the answer? I dont know
Last night I said to my friend I'll never finish learning but I'll learn everyday.
I love to read your words and I love to see your soul

    Thank you Aura! :)
I dont know if I want to know the answer either, I am simply being brutaly honest with life in general.
I myself dont like to be told or to tell myself that God is not what is taught by another but rather learned by ourself, but in reality this is the truth.
How can I know God if I only believe what I read in the Bhagavad Gita?
How can I know what a soul is if I only hear about it, but dont feel it to be true from my own experience?
It is true, ALL religion IS based on fear unless we discover God on our own, without fear and without confoming to a group that divides us as people.
Spiritual masters do not know anything, they are seeking power and attempting to guide us, when they themselves have no idea where they are going.
I am always learning, the moment I claim to know anything to be really true, I am finished.
I am trying to set my soul free and to learn what real love is, without expecting anything in return.
It is very difficult but I feel that it is something we must all do. :D
And we can not limit ourself to be taught only by teachers who claim to know things.
We must learn from the birds, the trees, the love of others, the ocean, the river.
Life is the teacher, and we can learn with open eyes, hearts, and mind, to accept the love in everything, and to be shown truth everywhere we look.

I really like this post...a lot of things in it are very true about the undying love for the self, heh. While, I dont necessarily think that undying love for the self is wrong in any way..ourselves and God are really all we ever have, and those two things are not truely seperate from one another...
I dont think that many people take this perspective (look how many replies..) but..I love that you posted this, and surely it will cause everyone who reads it to question themselves and their motives in love.

    i liike this.
i reflect on things similar to this post on quite a daily basis.
    so far i've found:
[o1] you can't truly love someone until you love yourself.
[o2] you have to be okay with yourself before others can be okay with you.
    &
[o3] a lot of parents exude a selfish love onto their children. they want to protect them, yet not confine them; they want them to be individuals, yet just like everyone else.

    haa;maybe i'm all wrong.
    but everyone has opinions-right?
    :]

    Thanks Eagle :)
I understand my own writing, but just as everyone else, I am
always learning and trying to live up to my own realizations.
I myself have problems with life in general, I mean of course everyone has
problems, but I mean in simply living. I try as hard as I can to be understanding
and to show love equally to every person I come across, but I also have
trouble living up to my own truths. Especially when I come to confrontation,
I try my best to avoid it and be cool and calm, but I sometimes let
my emotions get the best of me and my additude comes out. But, live and
learn and Im living and learning every waking moment :)

well written, john. Ram Dass said, the truth is hidden behind a curtain. and our own selfish desires keep us from pulling back that curtain. human nature isn't to want the truth, we want what is convenient and easy. love isn't easy, it's so very hard. universal love, the spirit of loving kindness to everybody...it's a tough thing.

i agree that no teacher can tell you truth because it's inside. not external, internal. a book or guru can only point the way.

damn i wish i had more time to discuss more... maybe when i get home in a few days

btw john i bought that book you suggested by Ram Dass. got it for 6 bucks in austin wowee! it's really good IMO thanks for recommending it

I hope I didnt mislead you by telling you that it is a commentary on the Gita.
I mean, yea, it is, but some people might understand that as a direct translation/purport layout, rather than an overview on how to live the teachings.

This is not the kind of revolt I was getting at......
But, if it happened, you either fight or die I guess.
Sometimes, killing is justified, but never preferable.
Then again, we are never the killers, the soul goes on, the body is no more than a pair of clothes to be changed..
