Hi there everyone. I have wanted dreads for years now and i am finally in a position with my education and everything that i can get them. Basically, i was wondering if it is worth buying one of the kits from dreadheadhq or sometrhing like that. I read somewhere or other that there is little point and that the wax is evil and not good for dreading anyway and that you can make a locking spray out of saltwater and lemon? Is this true? Also my hair is fairly thick and like 6" in length, will it dread? Also should i use rubber bands and what is the best method online for backcombing in your opinion? lol sorry a fair few questions there. JAck
oh yeah, also can anyone reccomend a easily available soap or shampoo thats residue free? I live in the uk btw so has to be easily available in shops i guess
check out my thread dude...search for the lemon and sea salt, they do lock them up tighter, wax IS A NO!!!! a lot of research and the dread guru(soaringeagle)says no!!! but yeah, backcombing, use a flea comb, its all pretty much in my thread, cause im a newbie too, and dont bother with a kit, youre better off just doing it yourself, rubberbands...i dont know...i might use little ones for like a week, if that...but there are threads about this too, just search for them

for sure, i have to get a flea comb and then ill be starting mine, i have thick hair too, so i guess we will both find out how they turn out, dreads are for all hair types, but locking varies you know? just gotta wati and see
Hey guys, good luck on starting both of your journies! WWKCD, I got a flea comb at my grocery store in the pet section, it ended up costing about 3 dollars I think, didn't even end up using it, lol. And bongbong, I don't know about easily available residue-free soaps because I just use Ivory myself. If you can't afford a speciality soap right now or can't find one, I'd recommend that. My hair is locking up fine, maybe a little slower than it would if I had a residue-free soap, but its good for a temporary solution.
Thursday Plantation tea tree oil shampoo. Availible at Holland and Barrent. You'll find yourself there alot.
just so you know Ivory soap has animal fat in it... used it before i knew and it made me feel disgusting after i found out... can you say hot shower! anyways i recomend Dr. Bonner's... it is amazing! good luck!
yeah, I used ivory too...ewwww, I shudder a little just thinking about it. Dr. Bronners is the way to go...remember to dilute!
