I think this is the right forum yes?( please move if not)

Ok , well NEVER EVER EVER buy from DELL.

If you dont believe me just check the net and "dell sucks" or dell scam or complaint etc.

I bought a new machine from them and they pack it with "bloatware" spyware etc.
The free 3 years of preinstalled McAfee wouldnt register then expired.
MCafee were utterly useless in helping me , and Dell werent any better.
A manager promised me a new tower as compensation ( as Id wasted hours and hourse ) and been exposed to viruses since it was new( 4months)

Now the manager's manager ( a well known complete arsehole of a woman) has renaged on the offer. So Im cancelling credit card payment and notifying the press _EVERYWHERE

Dell maybe slightly cheaper than some but their components are substandard , customer service is appalling.
Also they get paid money for preinstalling rubbish like spyware , bloatware and butchering things like Mcafee etc which doesnt work in the way developers intended.( they alter packages so they can data mine you etc)

The result - a load of shite.
Criminal proceedings are also be instigated for fraud in their finance packages.
    - by the US Attorney General

Anyone else had problems with em , please advise me .
    BEWARE

    Best wishes all

I'm personally not a fan of prepackaged comps that one gets online or from big box stores.

A big PC retailer here MDG is prolly worse, just google it or go to redflagdeals and see what posters there gotta say about 'em. Their specs are vague, they advertise one thing and give u another, their upgrades are a joke, like upgrade from a dedicated vid card to onboard. If u want to buy say a dvd drive they bundle it with SW, whether u like it or not, which jacks up the price and theres no alternative, except to go to another retailer (which is wiser anyhow).

They invest more $$ in big ads than in their own products and services. Oh and their comps are just as bloated, I've seen MDG comps that have twice the rated power of my humble PC yet are sooo much slooowwwer.

The best way to get a PC is to build one yourself. Or if u can't do that get a geek friend to do it for you. Or to go to an independent local retailer.

You can check online for reputable dealers in your area, sites that have ppl review stores.
I trust the small retailers over big box any day, tho mom 'n pop stores can have their slip ups too.

I bought my Dell 2 years ago when I didn't really obtain ,my now, wealth of computer knowledge. But definitly I will have my babylove build me a computer--he is really good at that techy stuff.

My collage insests on buying new Dell's every few years. Every time they relpace them, the new ones are wrse then the last ones.

Also in my computer science classes we are always having to fight the computers to do any work on the hardware.

I have found Dell's to to overpriced piles of crap.

My Dells have all worked just fine. Better than the ones I have built myself. As for the spyware, i use spywareblaster and spybot search and Destroy. No problems. AVG antivirus smokes mcArsee.

With any prepackaged computer, it would be in your interest to learn how to disable all their bloatware crap. Compaq units were the worst in the past, and took pains to make it difficult to turn off their phone home crap. Gateway came in a close second with their faulty or cheap hardware components. But it can be done. One of the things I don't care about all these units is the fact they usually don't come with an OS disc or any form of backup discs. They use a restore partition that is hidden.

I am still using my custom build from 1999, and it out runs many of my friends HPs, Dells, etc. with higher speed mobos and more ram. And they are on their second and third computers.

Bought a used computer, gave it to a friend who wiped it, rebuilt and upgraded it. Great computer, fast and only cost me a total of $175. Also good for the environment by recycling.

That's really the way to go if you can. My PIII/500 has probably stretched it's self as far as it can go. I am looking to put a new unit together, I've been upgrading it through all the discarded computers my friends don't know what to do with. I can't afford to go the route I did in the beginning. I had recently received a work comp settlement, so I read every magazine I could before I called around and found a local builder. I ordered the fastest most powerful unit I could think of, good for gaming great for graphics. This time I think I'll build my own, but have to scrape the money together first.

ive never had any issues with dell customer support, theyve helped me after my warranty was up. my laptops hard drive did die after about 3.5 yeras though.
and mcafee is a piece of shit, you should never rely on it alone for spyware. hell, you just shouldnt use it. get avast antivirus, spybot, lavasoft ad-aware and if you want to control everything, zonealarm

I've never had any problems with dell, they always helped me even when my warranty expired in about 2001. I'm pretty sure I have all the original hardware in it and it is still lasting to this day.

prepackaged computers are generally shit anyway, so is anything microsoft makes..........worst software out there. I built my own, with Linux of course.....never had the slightest problem in years, never one virus, never one piece of spyware, no datamining, zilch......perfect. I want a good super-fast laptop now........I recommend those that don't know check out newegg.com

never buy a dell computer that was made after 2000 because they put a chip in it that sends everything u type to a federal database. If you try to remove this chip your ENTIRE computer will not work. My friends who are computer-related majors told me this. One of them tried to remove the chip and his computer wouldn't work. My parents have an older Dell and when they had issues with it and called costumer service they had nothing but problems. Dell broke our warranty and refused to come out and fix the motherboard that went after the first month my parents had it. Plus, I had a very hard time understanding the person on the phone because they OUTSOURCED their jobs to India!!! DO NOT SUPPORT ANY COMPANY THAT OUTSOURCES!! I will only purchase Macs because they don't outsource and I can understand their representatives. I have no issues with people from other countries, but please learn our language if you plan on doing business with us!

Helped my rent's buy a computer (picked out the specs.) and ended up deciding on Dell. Money wasn't an issue for them, and if you spend the money for better parts you'll get them.

Bought the thing like two years ago, but put in a 3.06 hyperthreaded, 2 gigs of DDR, and a 10,000 RPM harddrive, and the thing is still blazing.

The feds do have a poor understanding of irony. Or a brilliant grasp of it. I just hope they send the guy from Predator to be the next president.
