I don't have one. But if they're pretty different then the old ones (which were all precisely the same!) should they really be considered hippies?

to me, a modern-day hippie is someone that has their own views, but basically carries on the same ideas the TRUE hippies began with.
we're not afraid to be ourselves and rebel if we need to.
its so much more than listening to "mom's bands", like the dead and hendrix, but its about knowing whats going on in the world around us and-ew-politics.
we're very smart, VERY smart people who just wanna live.

To me, a modern hippy lives in the now and not thirty years ago.

I agree! I'm angry wiv the south park creators for taking the mickey out of us!

All hippies are unique man! We're all pretty, beautiful people and we all have our love (and often hair) in common!

By the way, what pants have you found?

^ Exactly. Every hippie has got his own creative way of life. All different, but with the same thoughts as the first hippies on this planet, like moongazer said.

    Every Movement has its' founders.

I would also note that despite we're still talking about hippies,
many of that precise movement would agree and have already stated that:
"A movement dies out as soon as it becomes self conscious."
And thus, the emergence of disco, heavy Metal, Punk, Emo...

In all honesty, I believe that "hippie" is a frame of mind, not a person from the 60's. It's timeless. Hippies have existed long before the confines of "modern" or "traditional"...

    Peace energy.

All of these are good definitions.

I believe a modern-day hippy is someone with the spirit of the old generation, looking for something to cry out against, tries to fix what's wrong, will go out and fight extreme consumerism and global warming, but will come home and play his Xbox 360 becuase thats how bad it has gotten. But, there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Hmm...some words that come to mind: sustainable, barefoot, different, compassionate, longhair, earth mamas and sunshine papas, attachment, energy, traveler, worldly, virtuouso, spirit-awakening, and rainbows.

Not really sure that's a definition, and not 100% positive I'd identify as anymore than an earthling.

hmm. my thoughts were similar to a lot of what you guys said.
just wanted to see other people's opinions on things.
but at the moment since it's early morning. ill talk about my pants.

theyre quite simple really. well. REALLY simple.
theyre basically loose-feeling yet well-fitting tie pants. the first pair of pants that actually went down to my ankles.
theyre just so comfortable and flexible-found them in a thirft store of course.

Maybe someone who works for the wellbeing of the planet, and loves what they do, and has friends from different periods of their life and is still in contact with them. Yeh all that makes sense to me.
