I was lying in my boyfriend's bed and he and his other roomates went to get something down the street. My friend who also lives there stayed and took a shower so I kept hearing her go back and forth between her room and the bathroom. Then I thought I heard the front door open and then some rustling downstairs - I guess possibly it could have been actually coming from my friend upstairs, I don't know. I looked over because I was suspicious and saw my friend walking downstairs and then I swear I heard someone who I thought was her gasp and start to cry like she was scared so I thought someone had broken in the house and I was literally about to hide in the closet. A second later my boyfriend and everyone came back and I asked him where my friend was and he said she was right there. I asked her if she was crying or gasping or anything and she said no.

So I basically heard all of that stuff in my head I guess? That freaks me out. I've never heard things like that before and thought something was actually happening, not even on drugs. I am a pretty paranoid person and get anxiety and my boyfriend moving to the city has kinda made me a bit paranoid but I was fine before I heard that. (I did kinda have an anxiety attack earlier if that means anything.) I had smoked some pot but wasn't really that stoned and pot usually diminishes my anxiety. So I don't know. Am I that paranoid to the point where I am believing these things are happening??

You could have watched an event from the past, reenacted with the image of your friend rather than who it really happened with. How old is the house?

So your friend did walk downstairs, and all that was unusual was you thought you heard rustling, a gasp and a cry when you didn't? That's not so unusual, there are plenty of sounds that can sound like other things when you're not really paying attention, and thinking you heard a gasp might have made you interpret some other sound as crying. Sounds like you've already identified the rustling as probably coming from upstairs anyway. Perfectly normal run of the mill perceptual misapprehension, happens every day.

Ive had a similar thing happen before, I dont think it is anything to worry about.

And off-topic, a random quote that found its way into my head when i was reading this "The only thing seperating psychosis and a hallucination is the realization that not everything going on inside your head is what is actually happening." Made it up myself, and I dont even know why im writing it down here. Ahh, the wonders of mary jane.

Well I'm thinking obviously I was hearing things so it must have been coming from upstairs but I swear I heard the front door open when no one was downstairs.. You can hear everything going on in the house whether you're upstairs or downstairs, it has a lot of reverb (is that the word?) so the crying I thought I heard was pretty clear to me, not a faint sound.

And I don't know how old the house is, it was just renovated is all I know but its in Baltimore City so it could be pretty old.

Oh well I've accepted that it didn't really happen and I'm not gonna worry about it unless something like this happens again.. thanks for replying. =)

I hear you.. (pun intended). I hear things also a lot of times, but auditory hallucinations are nothing compared to visual, especially when you "see" a rhinoceros while mountain biking.

Im a lead paranormal investigator for JPRS in Missouri, What you could have been hearing is what is called a residual haunting or placed memory, something that has happened in the past in the house, but isnt a concious spirit. Also renovation is one of the major things that will stir up paranormal activity. If you are still questioning it, leave a tape recorder out, see if you can get it on tape. The anxiety attack and the weed does make the sounds questionable though. your subconcious mind was very vulnerable.
