Alright, well I decided since I can't get my dreads to do what I want, I'll let them do whatever they want. I didn't bother taking the back dreads out, but a lot of them fell out when I washed with normal shampoo. About an inch below the roots (Or above, depending on how you look at it!) they're knotted up kinda nice, so the back of my head will form a lot faster than my sides, and there's a few on the sides I didn't take out all the way. I'm just gonna let my hair do what it wants from this point on. If it wants to part, it will. If not, it won't. Although I've had my part so long, when I get out of the shower and everything my hair falls back to it's part.

I'm hoping this turns out for the best. I know it's going to be a loonnngg journey. Especially after the youtube videos I've seen. 12-14 months and still not really dreads.. sheesh.

The only thing I'm really going to do is rip, wash, and probably wear it back in a ponytail when I go out, lol. I imagine riding with the windows down in a car could help, so maybe some of that too. =)

I forgot where, but there's somethin' here in the forums that suggests not to tie up young dreads? Something about not being able to tighten properly near the roots or something due to the pulling? *shrug* Just gotta let em hang loose.
The first few weeks I had been putting em up in a ponytail and they didn't seem to be doing great till I saw that thread and quit tying them up for a good amount of time and then they seemed to be doing much better

That's how I went. I backcombed the front and some of the sides pretty well, but got too lazy towards the end...so I just did about a half inch to an inch at the roots on the rest of my hair. Surprisingly, it's not that far behind those that I fully backcombed.

And I wear my hair up every day. The only problem with me is that the ends don't seem to be coming along that quickly, but that's normal.

Well, only a few of them in the back are like that. I didn't feel like taking those ones in the back out. It hurts, and I'm way too impatiant, lol. The rest of my hair except for the back is normal.

Although what you're saying sounds like how my hair was before. After I backcombed it all fell out except for the roots. So I had a tiny little bit knotted up, and the rest I could run my fingers through perfectly if I wanted to.
