i'm supposed to be taking my first trip here soon
i'm actually quite nervous. i don't really want a complete stranger to poke around in my bits.
i'm going becuase probably have a yeast infection, after doing some research i figured that's what it was, but anyways... just asking my mom to make me a doctors appointment was embarrassing. AND i did it in a text message.
what can i expect? i'm too embarrassed to ask my mother... it's awkward when we talk about sex and things.
becuase the doctor delivers babies too, my mom said it will probably be a nurse practitioner that will check me out and stuff. i don't know...
    sorry i rambled there.
but is there anything you guys would like to share with me about this exciting life changing visit???

you will have at least two peopl ein the room - the doctor and the nurse, to make sure nothing hinky goes on. youll be asked to take off your pantsa nd underwear and lay on the bed with a paper sheet over you (well thats what we use here), youll be asked to put your feet into the stirrups and scoot down when the doctor and nurse come in. the doctor should do a visual inspection and probably a swab as well (some do some dont, depends on the severity of the yeast infection or how obvious it is). the doctor will probably then write you a prescription - if he offesr you the pills instead of the vag cream, take the pills... faster, less messy, etc. although the cream does often come with another smaller pack of pill tahtll help relieve external itching... im just not a fan of the creams, so greasy and messy

my first gyno was hot. when i was taking social psych i read about how gynos used to manualy stimulate women to orgasm to relieve 'hysteria'. I would fantasize about mine doing thise to me and I was so embarassed whenever he did his gyno thing because i know he could tell i was turned on.
now gynocologists freak me out and i hate going.
the only advice i have is to specifically ask for the small instruments. for some reason all of them think we are the same size. i've also found that male ones are more gentle. i go to a male one right now and he is the first one i have liked in a long time. it hardly hurts at all and he grabs my foot and tells me jokes, which makes me feel better.

In contrast to Allonym's experience, there has always only been one person in the room during my gyno visits, and that's the gynecologist herself.

To be totally honest, I really don't mind going. I was 15 the first time I went, and naturally really nervous. But it turned out to be so quick and easy that I got over my nervousness fast and just accepted it as a part of being a woman. I was actually rather proud of myself after my first visit; I felt grown-up and responsible in taking care of my body. One of the things that I think helped make me more comfortable was having a female doctor, but that's just my personal preference. If you're feeling self-conscious, just remember that your doctor has seen a ton of vagina's in his/her life, and they are not judging you.

Good luck, and good job for taking responsibility of your health at a young age. :)

It's really not a big deal. I went when I was 17 because if I was old enough to have sex, I was well overdue for a trip to the gynecologist. Except my mom didn't let me go to the gynecologist so I just went to my GP (who actually originally was a gyno, but not is a GP who only treats women), where a nurse did a pap smear and everything.

I'm rather small in the nether regions and the nurse pulled out the largest speculum in the box- and it couldn't have been larger than a tampon and certainly not as big as a penis. It doesn't hurt unless you are freaking out. Just keep telling yourself that you're going for your health and it's no big deal. Women do each other a disservice by talking about how horrible gyno visits can be- it's not bad at all. Certainly MUCH better than having to get your blood drawn at every GP check up.

I've had one horrible experience and it was a male gyno. Now I go to a woman and it wasn't all that bad. Sure it wasn't comfortable, but she was fast about it.
