My daughter Riley is just over a year old now. Everything we do and everyone we know lives at least a half an hour away(which stinks, we're trying to move). The last two times we went somewhere she got sick and threw up everywhere. I feel so bad for her. And I am pretty sure she is getting car sick because the time before this, (that we went out) was a week ago. Now, this week it happened again a half hour into the ride (pretty much we were on the street where we were going). What can I do to help her? Sunday we are going on this half an hour ride again to look at houses... my babysitter usually is my MIL but my MIL is my real estate agent so besides trying to find someone else to watch her what can I do for her? Do they make anything that someone this young could take? Any herb I can bake into something to help her?

Dakota gets car sick if he is hungry. You might try giving her a little snack before you leave. Of course this may also make her sicker, but it works for him.

Aw, poor baby. I can relate to that. When I was little, and went too long in a car, I would do the same thing. Around town I was ok, but go for long trip that took hrs at a time, just made me so sick. I grew out of it and she will too.

be4 we left she was munching on sesame seed crackers. So maybe I'll make sure she has dinner and wait a few hours be4 we attempt more house hunting.

Awww, I feel for you! My oldest son (who is 7) has a major problem with car sickness. It's rare that we can go much of any distance without him getting sick to his stomach, or throwing up. He's fine when he's in the front seat, sitting higher up in his booster chair, but when he's in the back of the vehicle, many times if we're in the car anymore than 15 minutes or so, he starts to get sick. Now granted he doesn't throw up every single time, but his stomach will be queasy. I've learned to keep an extra change of clothing in the car along with a sick bag, just in case.

With him, because he's older, sitting in the front is feasible. I've been told that when one suffers from car sickness to keep them at eye level with the horizon. I thought it was crazy, but it really does help. However, with your child being so young, that's not something you can do!

The most I can advise is that perhaps you drive 10-15 minutes, and then stop and take a break for a few minutes, get her out of the car into the fresh air. That's what I would do when my oldest was little. It seemed to help.

I know how rough it can be. About a month ago we were all going on a half hour trip, and figured, okay, maybe he'll be okay to sit in the back, I mean sometimes he gets sick, and sometimes he doesn't. By the time we got to our destination, he was complaining his stomach hurt. We stopped at a restuarant for dinner and as soon as we get in there and the hostess is seating us, our oldest took one horrified look at me, said "mommy...", puts one hand over his mouth. I knew the tone of his voice, I knew the look on his face, even before he put his hand over his mouth. My husband grabbed him and made a mad dash to the restroom before he tossed his cookies in front of all the diners.

After he "relieved" himself, he came skipping back to the table and wolfed down his entire dinner. Go figure.

Also, is her carseat "tall" enough that she can look out the windows? Sometimes carsickness is eased if you can look outside. Not sure why. something to do with inertia. Your body feels that you're moving, so If you're focusing on something that's not (a book, a toy) it confuses your body, causing nausea. At least that's what I always heard. Correct me if I'm wrong. I know you can't really tell a 1 year old where to look, but maybe if she's down too low, that could be the culprit.

I just wanna say i'm sorry your daughter has car sickness that sucks the big toe!!

I have 2 step daughters that are 8 and 11 years old. They both get car sick , we give them gravol. My family will not EVEN attempt to come and see me and i live 6 hrs away. (now 'm not talking just a weekend), i'm talking like for a full week. My sister i have give multiple times to work her schedules out considering she gets TIME off which she wants to spend wih her friends, and My mother can care less. I have a very suportive father. My dad had stated that "my girls are alot older than "her boys" , But whether or not they are or not WE (my husband) and i have to stop every 1 hr and a half to make frequent stops which makes the ride even longer . I have had to explain that to my dad 3 times before he actually got it. Then there are my inlaws. My MIL is excelent lives right in town, but my FIL will not attempt to ome and see. And i also get car sick too. Not to the point where i throw up i feel like i'm drunk and in another world. So what i'm trying to say is... YOU have YOUR children, You deal with your children on a every day basis whereas everyone else just gets the odd feedback. Go with your heart and let them understand where your heart lies, if its too much for Riley Than you need to put your foot down and tell whom ever it is You need to come see me. I know that sounds mean. Or meet half way. I seriously cannot afford MY stepdaughters to sit in a boiling hot car for 5.5 hrs and keep throwing up , where as my sister can just drive straight and the boys just sleep anyways. Theres a big difference. I wanted to get together this summer with my family considering I ALWAYS go to my home city but they don't want to drive here . Be fair and square shes your baby and you ned to do whats best for her and your whole family

I've heard ginger helps. Therefore I keep some gingerbread cookies in the car and ginger ale on hand.

You know, I had never heard of using ginger to combat motion sickness before! I'm definitely going to have to try that with my oldest and see if it helps him!
