    Firstly, Hi everyone :)

I've had my dreads for only 3 months now, the only problem is since getting them I have moved away from my very very good friend who did them for me and I'm having trouble with the roots! I have been twisting them regularly, not using any wax any more (but put some virgin coconut oil in them the other day, didn't seem to do too much but made them shiney and smell amazing!)

the problem I'm having at the moment is at the roots, where new hair is beginning to grow, it doesn't seem to be growing in a lock, I know that it takes some time but I'm trying to ease the new hair into the exsisting locks and it's proving very difficult and kinda painful, so far I have tried just twisting and back=combing (the painful part),

so any advice for easing new hair into existing dreads??

    thanks for any help...

I'd really stop with re-backcombing... isn't that really bad? As you can completely destroy the knotting process? Might be wrong though..

As for your roots, just clockwise rub them. Take the root between your index finger and your thumb and move the root in a clockwise motion. After doing it for a minute or so on each root you should feel new knots starting to form. If its completely straight hair it can take longer you notice it working. Give that a go? Otherwise you can just wait it out and they'll lock up by themselves eventually.

Don't clockwise rub them when your hair is wet though! Your hair is weaker when its wet so you'll cause breakage and then get like a million zillion more fuzzies than what you want and/or need

i personally do not clockwise rub, twist, or anything. Ive found that in the end clockwise rubbing results in looser and weaker locks. thats just me though. some people swear by clockwise rubbing (then again some people swear by wax to) 3 months is not a very long time... just wait it out.

in the end the roots will dread... my boyfriends dreads have more than doubled inlength since he got them and they are amazing... though he still always has about an inch or two of looser hair at the roots... no big deal :)

Loose hair is just part of it. If you didn't have loose hair at the roots the dreads would stick straight up, wouldn't they? That's silly.
