It'll only bother me at work because that's where I smoke the most and now we've been shoved outside. But we had a smoking room that was enclosed and well ventelated anyway so I don't see the big issue with that. Even the non-smokers would come in because it wasn't that bad in there. I think the ban should be re-assessed ... if the indoors area is venelated and isolated from the non-smoking areas, I don't see the problem. If you don't like smoking, don't enter the smoking room ... simple as that.
Yeah, I agree with that. But it would be hard to govern where smoking would be tolerated and they would have to do inspections of induvidual premises before they gave the smoking room etc the ok.
I think it's great. I just hope we can begin and ridicule people in the streets who smoke and really make them feel like social lepers, yeah bullying man it makes you feel superior!
No I don't think we should bully people, but making them aware that what they are doing in other peoples presence may be offensive shouldn't be off limits.
To be honest I do like the idea of the ban. I have found I do enjoy a night out on the drink and not being in a pub thick with fag smoke.
although this ban can help smokers give up, i think the government have gone way to far. Outside my house ther is a bustop wit o one wall and and advertisment sign perpendicular 2 it, and ther is sign saying it is against the law to smoke there, even though it's not even enclosed. i have also seen one of these signs at an outdoor cash point . its a little excessive if u ask me!
I think the ban is going to have the same effect as other countries who have done the same thing: People in the hospitality services (pubs, bars, restaurants etc) will lose their jobs because less people will be going to their businesses and therefore staff numbers will have to be reduced. Many pubs, restaurants and nightclubs will close down because they've lost half of their clientele and can't afford to stay open. Drink prices will go up due to less people going to said businesses. There will be more fights on the streets outside pubs because people will have to go outside to smoke and you know what drunken people are like! Some people will give up smoking and the smoking stats will go down for a while, but like in Ireland...after something like 6 months, the smoking went right back up to the same level of smokers as before the ban started. I don't really care about the ban, but just remember non-smokers: THE BEER GARDENS ARE NOW OURS!
That's something I hadn't thought about like. All those kids who ask you for tabs on the street...The old replies of 'None on me' or 'Don't smoke' wont fly anymore! Apparently it's helping many smokers get laid though, that's a plus. Forced out onto the street you have oppurtunity, time and common ground to start a conversation.
