hey everybody....just got a new puppy. she was barely six weeks old when we got her and is now eight weeks. she has lots of loose skin that she has yet to grow into. sometimes when she's in the way and i need to move her very quickly, or sometimes while i'm playing with her, i take a handful of the loose skin on the back of her neck and lift her by it, as i've seen many people do. i only hold her like this for a few quick seconds. i don't carry her around this way. she never whines or objects in any way, and i don't think it hurts her. after all, mama dogs carry them this way. but my own mother swears that its inhumane. i say if the dog were in pain or uncomfortable, she'd let me know. what do you guys think?

Its fine for when she is a tiny puppy, but I wouldn't do it too much or else her skin will probably stay a little loose from the tugging as a pup.
I think your mom is just a little worried her baby won't take care of a pet as good as she should--its a mom thing.

as long as shes little and it doesnt hurt her i dont see a problem. i do it with young animals. make sure she doesnt have some complex, subtle way of telling you shes in pain though, every dog says it differently.
