That's one important motivator for some people (not me), among lots of others: --our parents told us so, and there's no reason to challenge them; --family, friends, and society in general support it, for various reasons (it's a great source of social control); --it helps to give us a sense of meaning, purpose, and identity, and to provide an explanation of physical and social reality; --the arguments and evidence for it are convincing to some; and --the values that it preaches seem worthwhile, depending on the religion.
ppl usually turn to religion for a sense of comfort. something loves them unconditionally. something is watching over them to keep them safe. etc...ad nauseum. they lack self esteem/confidence therefore turn to blind faith to blanket their fears. it's all very simple. the sooner they wake up from fantasy land, they'll be free. until then, it gives us LOGICAL beings something to laugh at.
A religion is just a people's world view and reality. Atheism is a world view or reality which is as real to atheists as Hinduism is to Hindus. It is mostly just outsiders who identify and categorise different religions. Most people we might call 'religious' just believe what seems true to them, the same as anyone else does, depending on their cultural influences. Many religious people may not question how they live, but many people who have been brough up as atheists don't question that either.
and many ppl who grow up with religion wake up from the insanity. thankfully. your only answer to the question of whether u can physically prove god exists is, u can't disprove it. well u can't fuckin disprove i'm an alien from another galaxy. now can ya? but don't start questioning urself on my behalf. i like having something to laugh at incesantly.
so, we arguing on 2 threads at the same time now? but there's really no point carrying on if you're just gonna mock me
One other important reason parents bring their kids up in a religion (whether the parents really believe in the religion or not) is that they think if they don't their kids will grow up without morals and get into sex, drugs, rock'n roll and websites like this one.
That's true. XD The thing is, people should choose the faith that fits them, not be forced into a faith and should have the choice not to have a faith at all if they wanted. I'm lucky, I had that early on.
