I have been considering gathering psychoactive mushrooms after reading some things on the internet. But before I get any further in researching, I'd like to know if there's even a slight possibility that I could find some in middle-of-nowhere Nebraska where I live. Has anyone ever had any success out here?

this isn't entirely 100% accurate, but its a decent reference point. most of the midwest has only the slightest presence of naturally growing psilocybian mushrooms, and where they do occur they are usually species low on the scale of desirability, like Panaeolous subbalteatus and Gymnopilus spectabilis

for the record, this list completely omits the states of north dakota, south dakota, nebraska, kansas, oklahoma, iowa, and minnesota, with most neighboring states having few listed native species, and most (not all) undesirables

traditionally there would have been far more use of daturas, tobaccos, peyote (procurred through trade), and other plants in local religious practices.

but while its not so prime a location for gathering magic mushrooms, its perfectly fine to grow your own!
