I'm looking to set up home-alone in the Cornwall/Devon region sometime soon, and while I'll be doing some volunteering work first, I am jobless and penniless! hehe.. any you guys knew how long you have to be living in a county/town before you can claim job seekers and housing benefit? Any other info you know would be of great help! Ta! ;)

In Plymouth you need to be resident for a year before you can apply for council or Housing association properties...I'm not sure about the benefits though.
Give the local office a call and im sure they will let you know. Good luck. :)

Why would someone move somewhere without the means to support themselves or setup a proper home?

Why not stay where you are an earn some money first instead of PLANNING to leech off welfare?

Why would anyone choose to be on benefits?

Heya. I think maybe you're being a little judgemental and presumptuous.

Take a look at this other thread:
http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26188 There's a pretty good debate on there on the why's and where's of benefits. Might make you see a little better why people might choose it as an alternative way of life. :)

As I said, I will be first doing some volunteer work and the kinda work I'm interested in doing is just not available where I am currently living.
Like most people who move, I'm moving for a better life. In an ideal world, I'd find a flat that would let me live there rent free until I found a job, which would come along immediately. However optimistic I like to be in life, I am also realistic. If I waited until I was financially able, you're probably talking about another 10 years. Considering I'm also hoping to start college again too,
I just feel that's a little too long for me to be waiting to get on with my life. Any other reasons I have are personal and private, and so really none of your business. Marie-Clare xxx

Not really sure where abouts yet! hehe. It's really my second home, as I've got family there.I think the amount of holidays I had there growing up I must have seen every last inch! :D Ideally...like, north devon/on the boarders between Devon and Cornwall.
