I went outside a few minutes ago to watch the sunset and reflect on things. Walked up to the edge of the woods, and sat on a rock, nothing was comming to mind, my mind was totaly clear... I started asking myself what I wanted to know, but for some reason today, I don't want to know anything.... then the thought of existance once again came through my mind "why are we here" I sat there, my legs crossed, the sun beaming down on my face, i noticed how my skin shimmered (red, green, yellow, blue all in one) Then out came my cousins children, all of whom are around 2,3,or 4, maybe 5. They didn't see me, they were just running around chasing one another playing, being children... the laughter enveloped me, the purity of innocence, unconditional happyness, somthing i hadn't felt in a long time. then a rabbit came rustling from the woods, it hopped along about 40 feet away from me, im not sure if it knew i was there or not, but out it sat... in the open... i think it came out becouse it heard the childrens laughter (at least thats the first thought that came into my mind), the reason i said becouse of the children is becouse, when it was out there.... it just sat and watched them, seemingly content, just watching them.... not doing anything, not searching for food, or around its own kind, just....watching human children play with one another.... "why" i thought to myself... "would a rabbit just watch some kids play"... then i seen 2 completely differently...... one...rabbits have lives that make them just as individual as humans, and 2 we should watch children play more often...... we get so cought up in life that we forget... so much, we forget to love, be happy, and play just for its own sake... you dont children killing one another, you dont see them screaming there hate for one another, you dont see depression in children while they play.... we are the ones that put that in them, its the older generations, that teach hate, and prejudges, its us that desensitise them, its us that teach them humiliation and pain.... its us that make them suicidal... its us... the rabbit, was witnessing innocence that was yet to be ripped away....
fantastic thread. very true and i am glad you think like this. it is always nice to find someone whos contemplations are similiar to my own. thinking is such a blessing and a curse. children playing is beautiful. childrens smiles are beautiful too. childrens anger is as well. yes they gt pissed. but their anger is pure. its a child purity that is so refreshing. now the rabbit, i believe was actually late for a very important date and couldnt find the right alice. he was watching the kids play hoping to figure out which one would link it to its story
Nice, soothing post..but i've got to say that children can be very evil to one another...maybe not so much at that age, but a few years down the road and they'll be ganging up on each other.
i agree gary, i was gonna say something of that sort. they are more evil to one another than we are as adults, but that isnt cause its natural, its cause we have taught them to be that way
are sure that its not some innate competitveness that humans and the rest of animals are born with. my wife was telling me about watching some sparrows nest outside of their apartment in spain, and seeing two of the three push the third down into the nest and hog all of the food...they thought the third was dead, until the other two left and it emerged with its baby feathers still in place.....the parents then taught the last, little one to fly and with that they all left. Could it be instinctual?
i think it could be instincual in some ways, but i dont think it is completely instinctual. i would tend to argue that we do have elements of competition in us, as all things do. even the forest of trees. however, i think we have also been conditioned to be taunting and evil towards those that arent like us. i think that healthy competion is just that , it is healthy. however, most children arent brought up with true love to know what is healthy and what is not. most are brought up in broken families and with broken hearts. so they take it out on others. that my dear, is not instinctual, it is escape competition does not equal anger or meanness
but these birds were acting out of pure instinct when they stole all of the food from the third...because they could due to its lesser size. they nearly starved it to death. I'm not saying that societal factors don't play a part in childrens cruelty, because I know they often do, i remember the families that some of my childhood bullies grew up in....but then there were the others that had perfectly caring parents who ended up just the same... i think its a combination of both, but its in kids instinctual nature to gang up on the weaker ones, as well as to get all they can for themselves.
I believe it is a mix between nature and nurture, i'm not sure what the percentage is...I would be a brilliant social scientist if i did! Good topic
yes but with those birds it was survival. with us, it is not. unless we have some 5000 year old shit still in there. which i do not doubt. and i agree that there is natures play in it all. but i just feel we have the instincts in a much lesser degree than we exhibit. we have more of a kindling competition and we are fueled into timber
It wouild be interesting to compare children from different parts of the world together to see their levels of competitiveness, the way they played together, and the things they were taught as important growing up....i'm sure the competitiveness of this society adds to the friction between children....fuels us from kindling into timber as you said. insticts die a relatively slow death as well, so i'm sure some linger.....on the grand scale of things, people were a part of nature not so long ago.
i would like to get back to nature myself. i see some people who are so disconnected from it all. like this thread, not everyone would watch the rabbit, not everyone would see a lesson in it. ok, that is really off topic, but hey i can do that , this is my response dammit. that would be an interesting experiment. i would think one of its sort would have been done. i shall look into it and get back with you

We are here to re-member. Clarity and stillness allows you to breath in knowledge, wisdom and instincts... i.e. re-member. How can we evolve if we are presenting our subjective truths without interactive receptivity. Children don't have to pretend to remember they are the origin until conditioned by accepting the brutal discipline of constricted attachment. Ah, to feel the sun caressing your face... Rabbits have long been symbols of fertility, this is for a number of good reasons. One veiled reason is that they are drawn to uninhibited playful expressions of sexual energy. The lifeforce that courses through all of us, especially children, is pure vitality. This sexual vitality is curious and playful. It doesn't seek to have a small family. It breeds many children in the enthusiasm of fertility and sends them off to multiply. This concept is very feminine and thus threatening to governments that want passive workers and small families. Older has been divorced from wiser. Elders are soon forgotten and exiled to homes. Impressionable minds are more apt to buy... buy into commercials... buy into the sugary rush of packaging... exc. and wisdom, being exiled, aids in securing the marketing. I have greatly enjoyed "The Kin of Ata" by: Dorothy Bryant. In this woman's' studies classic a utopian community is formed centered around dreams. The members live in a spiral around an ancient tree. They share anew their dreams with each other and sleep in wheel formations under the canopy of primitive unity. All learn from the children, for this is where the new dreams come. Bad or Evil dreams are called "Donagdeo." Those who encounter "Donagdeo" go into underground "Holkas" to purge their psychic debris to encourage "Nagdeo" or good and beautiful dreams to return. Humans live in harmony here. Sexuality is addressed in its manifold manifestations. "Live long and prosper." Thank you for sharing your meditation, friend. Beautiful reflections
Interconnected creatures thrive in the now of nature... we think about it. My saying that instincts are quite complex is a mental understatement... they are beyond reason. I act swiftly when protection is needed; I feel attraction in the air; I love you.
