I had no idea where to post this so I figured here would be best.

I am looking to rent a post office box in the USA (upstate new york) I am just across the border in Canada. Reason being is I buy many things off the internet and some wont ship to canada. I am just curious as to how renting a post office box works there. Here in Canada we just go to Canada post and rent one for a yearly price, and if there is overflow they hold it in the back. Is it the same for USPS? Are there any other/better options. Thanks for any constructive replys.

The better option would be to do the "doorman service" at a UPS store.

Shit, looks like not every UPS store has this service, in fact the closes one I could find is a 7 hour drive away, YIKES.

I really doubt you can get a PO Box if you live in Canada. Recently, when I was at the post office, the clerk bitched out some lady who tried to apply to one because she didn't have a permanent mailing address in the city of the post office, I think. She went on to tell the lady that they've made PO Box requirements more strict since 9/11.

However, you can probably find somewhere that rents mailboxes. There are probably more places than the UPS store that do. I wouldn't know from experience, though. This is just an assumption.

I'd also like to add this bit of advice: get a forwarding address. You can probably register for one online.

po boxes can be rented by 6 months or by the year. like 20 bucks for 6 months, or maybe 10 bucks. if the stuff doesn't fit in your box they put a key in your box with a number on it. the key opens a bigger box with that number. works quite well. they do ask for your address, so idk if it would work with you living in canada. you could just use a fake address I suppose, but that's your risk.
