Hmm... I didn't even mean for it to be a poem, I was just writing my thoughts. The whole concept of a "nation" is misguided in my view, and many nations understand this. America seems to be one of the only modern nations that strongly encourage this notion of patriotism, pretty much forcing it upon people. (other modern examples could be some Communist states, and dictatorial republics). A person acting heroically to help his nation is not a hero. A person acting heroically to help another person, is a hero. America's history is a vile one. It is no longer a history of facts, it is more of a history of exaggerated dreams. I was taught American history, it is presented as such a utopia of progress. First there was colonization, some Indians died, oh well... Independence, oh so heroic! Beating those evil British and their taxation, kicking them straight out... and oh, all the heroes... let us all aspire to be Paul Revere one day! Then we just to slavery, it was bad... but we got over it... oh man, we're so great for doing it... lets give ourselves a round of applause... Civil war, man that sucked. The North were the good guys, the South were the bad guys... slavery, remember? Bad stuff... the good guys won, a win for America! Yes! Let us throw some more heroics into it... old generals, and idealistic presidents... vicious murders, oh sunken dream! (insert a war America single handedly stopped here) Then the depression, bad bad Steinbeck depression with dying grapes, and blooming oranges... fool's gold. Must feel sorry for America, the economy just suddenly went down! No reason! Poor us! But no no no, await.... everything got better, much better.... Yes, yes! Work to the people (as long as they're not coloured!). Oh, happy Roosevelt times! (Insert another war single handedly won by America here... add a bomb... completely justified, ofcourse..... 1 American life is worth more than 1,000,000 foreign lives, obviously). What then... oh yes... evil evil commies! Mother Russia will eat your children! Never trust them, not now, not ever... evil Russian commies and their potatoes, good for nothing vodka potatoes! Point all of our little bombs at them! Let us show them that our money means business! (Insert another war here... oh man, should have won this one... at least we killed a lot of that commie swine!)... add some failed invasions, some bombing...and ofcourse, we're nice enough to bring the GIFT, oh yes.. the GIFT of capitalism to the masses! Let the world eat our hamburgers and drink out coca cola in an explosion of pure, true American altruism! We are saving the natives with our Nike shoes! We are restoring the forests with our torn bibles! Give the Africans (that can afford it) a million different brands of American cheese and hot dogs to choose from! Let them swim in a sea of of of great cheap beer! Put factories in Bangladesh! (they may have rats, but at least they have jobs too), build broadcast towers on the moon! Put a power plant in the middle of a jungle (the cheapest land, ofcourse!). Feed the hungry, charge the country a couple of millions, and write it off as tax! Throw our homeless into the sewers, we have given them the capitalistic dream, and they are too lazy to work! Bad laziness! Bad emotions while we're at it, they do not help us progress! You know what, ban opinions, ban hate... force unbiased mandatory love of all colour, race, religion and gender! The people can only learn when they're in chains! America, such a history!
its blind nationalist pride, and every mans greed for what others have...or claim to have. America is just the hallmark of the world..proudly displaying our blind ideals of money and power and stiffling that which really matters. i completely agree with you on this. ~Jen
And once again, that's why I emphasize, THAT's WHY YOU EXPAND EDUCATION. Try branching out further, specializing with more detail, and perhaps you might see the insignia within. Brave, if the individual means that much to you, then why would you hate a congregation? If you spend some more time on the mountain, and begin to see the many views clash and settle and clash again, I could agree, there'd be many to join you in the view as others make the view. It's an alternating kinda thing, and I hope you don't proclaim that you're now writing off paths of growth in life. Just grabbing a bit of peace before making your next plunge. Oh, and thanks for the sentiment.
You might be taking this thread a tad too literaly. It's more of a creative notion and a search for reaction than a manifestation of my beliefs. Everything here has a tad of a comic undertone. "Hate" is also a terrible word and such a useless emotion.
. Yea, I definitely Agree with you right down to the tee. America is made on lies our very government-fueled media lies to us every day. They say we must agree with everything the president says, and must love every aspect of our country, no matter what it is. We have materialism sorrounding us, you can't take one step without seeing an add put out by some pinstriped businessman who doesn't care what happens to his consumer as much as his consumer's money, and you can't take another step without seeing someone buying into that ad because they think they actually need it. People seem to swallow whatever the government and the powers that be say.. I agree that America has lost it's way. We worship false heroes who, regardless of who they are killing, are killing nonetheless, and if we don't worship these "heroes" we're called "unamerican" and the like. America says it provides equal oppurtunity, but when it says someone who doesn't conform to it's harshest desires (Like a Homosexual) he/she is denied even the simplest right. We put to much trust in big companies. I myself have boycotted companies like Wal-mart, McCdonalds, and Coke, because every dollar you give them for whatever crap they want you to buy, is just fueling the corporate machine that continues to gain more power over America Peace
I know exactly what you mean, I'm the same way sometimes. And that is my reaction, I criticize aloud, others review quitely. The emphasis is HONESTY. All things in life are pretty funny. But their are more emotions. Life isn't a super mario brothers game...
Me, many others with me(who are actual hippies mind you, saw the dead, met inspiring artists and figures and such) and that's basically the way we see it. Oh, and we realize that it was a transition towards, not away from in the rev. And that is my tie to the hippie reality in my mutes. Satisfied?
Fair enough, I have two now anyway, I'll neeed to replace my drumheads before I get another accoustic tho. Unfortunately with my great creativity, I have my second handed counterpart, great destruction. It's not cuz I'm american, it's cuz god has a sick sense of humor. Mom has played video games, dad has played video games, I'm the accident who exists because of those two careless hippies. My friend was the one who played, I was the one who watched, or when active, told my sister to watch while me and his little brother went out to do retarded as shit all over the place, cuz sitting around too much gets painstaking! Unless you're fried...hackie sack is always good, or the skate park.
what history? well first settlers came...wars with indians...violent murders...war of independence...affricans...slavery...civil war and so on (are ya trying to check my history knowledge?) can ya deny that this ishistory certainly americe has one as well as culture no culture is culture itself yes mcdonalds mtv show-business is american culture ugly culture but it exists one more thing: ya can endlessly prove how shallow and primitive american culture is but ya cant deny the high living standard and opportunities americe gives one month in some third-world country and you'll love america passionately...
