Yes, I am aware of the safety reasons for babies to be in car seats... BUT After my 2 kids are big enough we will have tossed 4 car seats into the landfills...1 more year apart and it would have been 6 of them. (we got to use 2 twice) And we are just one family. They have expiry dates and aren't safe to use after that. My rant is about the booster seats we are now required to use by law. If the back seat is such a problem then would the car manufacturers PLEASE MAKE THE SEAT ADJUSTABLE FOR KIDS. Who else sits back there? FIX THE PROBLEM. It would be pretty easy to make the back seat adjust forward or backward... Next they will say kids need booster seats until they are 14... /rant
yeah but that's just corporations and government working together to scare us and in doing so, keep us compliant. they don't give a fuck about child safety, they just want to sniff out every dollar they can, never mind what it may be doing to the environment. my children will ride in booster seats but unless the seat is archaic or damaged or defective in some way, i don't think i'll be worried about expiration dates. just scratch the bitch off! if there's a law, play dumb. i was actually unaware of the expiration thing. so, see? maybe you didn't realize either.
There are whole new agencies that recieve federal funds for mandating car seats and training people to use them(What's with that?)...who's ever going to stand up and say it's ridiculous? With the new global warming fears, it's up to the imagination what new fortunes will be made for friends of politicians and what new agencies for the oversight of the little man's life will be developed. We are already being told we have to buy certain light bulbs.
Expiration dates? That's outragious. My guess is that "expirations dates" may be but a don't-sue-us ploy, in case some child seat has been sold and resold at yardsales, and been used for 20 different children, and is completely worn out, and then fails to protect adequately. Surely there is a half-way sane excuse for "expiration dates?" Chairs don't "expire," but they can sometimes wear out, due to excessive use or abuse over time. I don't even throw out expired food, well unless it smells funny, is turning funny colors, or is about used up anyway. Food and medicine doesn't just "expire" suddenly on some arbitrary day, but more gradually from day to day. That's just a guideline to suspected freshness. And surely seatbelt laws should always make an exception, for "overcrowded" vehicles. I can't see how it is any safer to put an additional vehicle on the roads, just because there's slightly more passengers than seatbelts. Especially considering the price-gouged greedy oil monopoly corporation gasoline prices, and eco-freaks tell us supposed that car-pooling is a "good" thing. I like to ride with others rather than drive, whenever reasonably possible, because I like their company, and I get to see more of the scenery than I can notice when I am driving and have to keep my eyes on the road.
Hmmm. I wonder if the Big Brother Nanny State, will install my childseats for free for me? You would think with what how much they love minding everybody's business but their own, they could help with such a simple thing?
If you have ever seen a car accident where a child was involved you wouldn't care how much it costs. You can also recycle car seats or buy them used. Isn't that what cregs list is for?
Who gives the corporations a pass based on date? If their product is good why should liability be limited? Any idea what those car seats sell for, it would be an eye opener. How many poor illegals can afford these prices? http://www.dreamtimebaby.com/dreambabcars7.html Then we have to protect the sellers because their wares may be resold in yardsales....is that unreasonable? Hell they manufactured them in China for prison wages. I think it's time to tell the corporations enough is enough. Protect our kids or stop producing goods for them and selling them. And then asking for protection.
Well the supposed reason for limited liability for corporations, is that the owners or stockholders, especially those with practically no decision-making power, don't want to be sued, or to be liable for what other people do, beyond the value of their shares. Also supposed abuse of filing frivilous lawsuits, of people thinking that sueing a corporation is like "deep pockets" or winning the lottery. But the perverse reason for pushing limited liability, is to further the greedy nature of the "person" of corporations, more allowing even illegal corporate activities, and to externalize the expenses of running the corporation, by dumping the pollution and expenses and corporate welfare on the taxpayers, while privitazing all the profits. Since supposedly all that matters, in these psychopath "person" corporations, is short-term profits for bigwig stockholders, finanacial damage awards from fair court trials, must be large enough to deter criminal and unethical behavior of these beasts we call corporations. In a corporation it seems, nobody is responsible for anything. "It's just business," people say. We just have to have unnessary layoffs and dump all the work on the few people remaining, so that the CEO and related stockholder bigwigs, can fatten their financial portfolios and golden parachute retirement plans, at the expense of the common workers who make the company work. Most political and economic decisions, are made by rich elites who don't even live in the real world of the working poor. In reading the book, Corporateering, I find it highly disturbing to read that the mandatory arbitration that too many places try to put employees under, rarely rules for the common worker, but for the giant corporation that brings them their arbitration business. Huh? If I was a judge, I wouldn't buy into arbitration agreements as a condition of employment, in a case where I would rule for the common worker. What? Corporations think they can just write their own laws and ignore the laws of society? As much as some products cost, especially cars, I should expect to get a DVD with the product, showing me how to change my oil, should I decide to do it myself, or how to change a flat tire, etc., or how to install that childseat. If "a picture is worth a 1000 words," then how much is a moving picture video worth? So many lying eco-freak, corporteers, or whatever powermongers, like to invent phony crises, so that they can pretend like their issue is bigger than everybody else's, and steal people's freedom. To solve a supposed "litigation explosion," they robbed us of our right to go to government courtrooms to sue for unpaid work or whatever greviances putting us under questionable arbitration, and that sounds so much like the rhetoric of the supposed "population explosion," from which large and "unplanned" families supposedly aren't so cool or "responsible" anymore. What about the supposed "freedom of choice?" Surely that would include the right of people to marry and breed, and of children to be born rather than aborted? BTW, I am a Christian conservative. Generally, I believe we have way too many "laws," and skyhigh unjust taxation. The income taxes and property taxes should be abolished for most people, but I think that corporations, for being the biggest "person" around, with more rights than anybody, can pay such taxes, provided that independent contractors and sole proprietership businesses, be exempted.
I never knew there were expiration dates on those. It's not a carton of milk! My mom had my brother's booster seat still & now I use that for my kid. It's 20 years old & still in good condition. If I get "talked to" or whatever, I'll say I didn't know. I just think it's absurd that they hafta be restrained still at 8. Absurd. But wtfever.
Here in Ontario it is age, height and weight. If it was just height and weight, you might see some adults in booster seats... My son is 8, but he can't bend his knees at the edge of the seat yet, he needs to be taller to sit comfortably, and have the lap belt across his hip bones, not his stomach, which is the danger here. Which is why I am arguing that the car itself needs to be adjusted to suit the sizes...buying accessories is wasteful.
I really really hate people like you that always think the government is out to get you.. fucking conspiracy nuts.
