A few nights ago, I had a dream where I was living with a couple in a trailer home. (I don't know said couple, but I knew them in the dream) We had bought a large plot of land, which was heavily wooded, and looked a bit like a reserved piece of property my family and I go to every year, except all the buildings and man-made items were gone, but the hammock was there. There was a lake, a swamp, and trees surrounding everything, blocking out any and all human civilization. It was kind of dark, because of all the trees, even though it was daytime, but that didn't stop me from exploring my new, jungle-like home. I spotted the hammock, which was supported by two trees, and decided to relax. I sat, cross-legged on the thick ropes, while, as I recall, the couple I mentioned earlier was having sex in the trailer. Suddenly, the hammock unattached itself from the hooks on the two trees, and flew over the swamp. Still, I sat with my legs crossed, and acted as if nothing worth while was happening. I watched the swamp as I flew above, meaning my legs were in my peripheral vision, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small, dark green snake slither out from under my lap, and I quietly, watched it work it's way off the hammock and disappear. I seemed unphased by both the flying hammock, and the snake. After that, my dream seemed to have cut to another scene, like in a movie, to morning, after I had finally landed and gotten back to the trailer. My dreams have done that countless times before. But like I was saying, it was morning, and I was exploring the lands again, this time, I didn't fly. No, this time I found a small, one-story house, perfect for one person. So, of course, I didn't tell the couple about it! I went inside the house and looked through the rooms, and found that the house was unoccupied, but fully furnished. I wanted to sleep in the house, instead of the nasty, beat-up, old trailer home, so I looked in the only bedroom, and found an expensive-looking, and working TV, across the room from the made bed. The bedroom was great, possibly perfect, except for the one thing that bothered me about the whole, entire house was in that room... Dolls. Lots of them. They were the porcelain kind, with the cold eyes, and curly hair. They were dressed in old clothes. Some of them wore, faded-pink Victorian dresses, with white-rimmed bonnets, and they all had those odd, little semi-smiles. But the room was filled with them, and I despise that type of doll. So I sighed and decided to sleep on the hammock. When I walked outside, now getting dark, I saw a familiar face. A 9-year-old girl named Brooklyn. She asked if I already knew about the flying hammock and abandoned house, I said yes, and she offered to take me on a boat ride in the swamp. Bored, and disliking the idea of sleeping at the hour, I agreed and went to the swamp with her. Again, it cut to Brooklyn and me in a small, eerie, brown boat. I was laying down, apparently barefoot, while Brooklyn was quietly rowing through the swamp with a single oar. All I saw was the back of her head, her long, blond hair, the dark swamp and flora, and my feet. Then something else appeared. The same, dark green snake from before. It was slithering around in the boat, still unphased, Brooklyn and I both ignored it and continued the slow ride. But then, a gigantic rattlesnake emerged from the swamp, landed in the boat, and ate the smaller snake quite quickly for a snake, since they usually take a while to eat and digest food. I was a little freaked out, but Brooklyn ignored this snake, as well and continued rowing. The rattlesnake looked at me, and attempted to bite my foot, but it only got close, and shot back, screeching. It tried a few more times to bite me, but it failed each time, because of some invisible shield, it seemed. Even though it couldn't hurt me, I would move my foot only, trying in the laziest way to dodge it's fangs. That's I all I remember, but one thing that bothered me about that dream, is that the rattlesnake is one of my animal totems, so I don't know if it's mad, or what... I'd absolutely LOVE IT if someone could try to interpret this dream, for me. Much appreciated!
Sounds like a fun dream. Just a couple notes. What struck me when I first read it was the repeated element of you ignoring something or being unphased when you normally wouldn't be. As you've organized it, there are three encounters or events (or tests?) and only one of them seemed to effect you. The snake and the hammock might be the ones that you'd expect to shock someone the most, but instead it was the dolls that caused a reaction, albeit not a huge scary one. Does this ring any bells with regard to your life? Perhaps you have noticed yourself reacting to events in a way you wouldn't normally expect yourself to?
Interesting... I never would have thought of it like that... Now that I think of it, that's quite possible. Thanks! ^^
well you know when 'totemic creatures' take human form, they look just like anybody else, except you can sort of tell that's who they are, without visible clues, because of your personal affinity with them, kind like recognizing someone you've known all your life. i'm not going to try and interpret the meaning of standard symbols, or what the might mean in the context of your own personal and cultural perceptions, whatever those might be, because except within a specfic culture, and often even then, the same symbols will mean different things to different people, jung and indiginous traditions both, notwithstanding. to me the important thing is that not everything that happens in a dream HAS to be symbolic of anything, it's more like wandering in a parallel world, although somethings that happen do seem to almost mean something, on the tip of the mind's tongue so to speak. you know i'm wondering, i just less then a day ago, heard a song for the first time called two tongues at the same time, that featured snake symbolism. my notes about it are in the other room where my wife is sleeping and i can't remember the details off hand about who sang it, but it was a young, indiginous singer, and it was about something to do with contemporary politics. this was on the women's collective on kvmr just this past monday. day before yesterday now as i write this. as for flying hammoks, and even more commonly the teleporting, often unintentional, and things desired or needed appearing, even the kind of setting you (the o.p) describe, are all quite common in my own dreams as well. (well not the dolls or hammoc specificly, but their functional equivelant in my own context) i'm suspecting this appearently young girl calling herself brooklin in your dream, is some sort of more then she appears, goddess like being, of a positive sort. terra tara gia in some aspect. i'm glad and happy for you to know and have met her. her age in your dream may likely symbolize the innocence of nature. other events illustrating that while risk is real, risk that isn't sought or persued, harm often does not come of it. that seems to me the main thing that is being said. also that you will have unexpected encounters that will make life unpredictably interesting in mostly harmless ways. or at least your subconscous, and or the rest of the universe, is telling you this is something you can reasonably expect. =^^= .../\...
