"Daydream Nation" might be good record for some one just getting into them. Here is a link that relates them to the Grateful Dead. http://www.wavelengthtoronto.com/regulars/compare/02_10.html Also there is a thread on them in the experimental music section.
Haha, a lot of their albums are pretty indentical sounding. Try getting into Blonde Redhead while you're at it, too
i have dirt and i like that album don't know weather is the best sonic youth or the worst, you tell me
Well, I'd say that Daydream Nation is one of their most accessible ones. I'm in love w/ EVOL. Its imagery, distortion, voices,... it's all inspiring in this album...
they are my favorite band and allways will be, the first thing i heard of them was the self titled EP, which completely blew my mind away, (and for all else who have heard it probably had the same effect) every album by them has something different to offer, and are all awesome in their own way. id have to say rather ripped is my least favorite of all of them tho, not as noisey, but you can deffinatly tell their sound is maturing alot. id recomend seeing them live if you get the chance, its allmost like a religious experience. then again i probably also enjoy sonic youth more than the average bear. but still, amazing band. also you should check out some of the bands that have influenced them, lee and thurston played with glenn brianca in a guitar orchestra, pretty interesting stuff, and also television which (thurston noticably gets his singing from.) and theres many others, but im ranting. so just check them out and enjoy.
Hey ya, Mildred Pierce! I made a various artists collection in which I included this incredible (semi-)instrumental song! I loved it when i listened to this song for the first time!
