http://www.runestone.org/cltgerm.html That has answered a lot of questions I have had lately about the subject, please anyone remotely involved in any form of Celtic worship as well as Norse give it a read and respond with your opinions.
Very interesting, thanks for that It seems a bit simplistic to just say that everything is identical; and comparisons may be drawn between things that perhaps don't necessary have that much in common. These peopler lived in diffrent times & places, so there must have been subtle variations and it would be shame to lose those.
Yeah I dont think they were exactly the same although this shows there were many strong similarities. Its probably more of a spectrum with some on more than one side than the other.
Two things you have to remember: Celtic does not translate to Ireland exclusively, nor does the reverse (as the article would indicate on several points). Celtic refers to the free tribes of Europe (including but not limited to Albion and Gaul) prior to their virtual eradication by the Roman Empire. Where the term Celt DOES in fact specifically refer to Ireland, it is no wonder that spiritual lines between the Celts and Norse cross; Ireland, though never discovered by Rome, was raided so many times and for long by Vikings that coastal Ireland was for many hundreds of years resettled and ruled by the Norse, and the two cultures interbred both physically and spiritually. Celts of Albion and Northern Europe tried to ally with the mainland Germanic tribes against Rome in 2d century AD, but were betrayed by these tribes who were in fact mercenaried to Rome and eventually all, both Celt and Germanic were either subjugated, enslaved, exterminated or scattered to the corners of Europe that were not under Roman control in order to maintain their own freedom. Interesting article, though. EDIT: I thought the second paragraph sounded familiar, I've posted that storyline here before...
no two panthions are identical nor even close enough to be mapable into each other as the romans so ethno centricly tried to do with their own. and anyway, whatever is, is whatever is, and all the names and idientities humans have pasted on to what no one can know in quite that sense, other then by their own individual personal feelings about what they personally experience, are just that. now i've met people in dreams who were just people but at the same time animal 'totums' (arctypes) in human form. but i don't think this has a lot to do with what anyone has written or passed down about panthions, that sort of thing. =^^= .../\...
