Bush and the economy wouldn't be reasons to hold me back if I wanted to live in the U.S. neither.

Hey man, Ruben has the straight dope here. He's posted LOTS of factual information to help you out. I have people in my family that have married in from other countries, friends in Russia that have to keep going and coming on various educational visas and know other people in very similar situations.

Something that Ruben has been hinting at is that it's REALLY HARD to get American citizenship. For my Russian friend she CAN NOT get a green card or permanent VISA because she was born in a soviet bloc country. She applied and was flat out denied because of her birthplace.

Moreover, as of May 2008 all US citizens will be required to get national IDs which will really make laying low hard.

I think you should definitely travel if you're not happy in your country, but it might be good to pick another TEMPORARY "stop-over" destination.

If your age is true to what your profile says let me lay some shit down for you:

You will not be able to rent a place to live

You will not be able to drive

You will not be able to purchase a car, OR rent a car

You will not be able to enroll in high school without living in the district (see problem 1).

You will not be able to take a GED to migrate into a university until you are 18... since

you are not a US citizen you will not be able to take the GED period.

You will not be able to marry anyone until you are 18 (almost NO ONE gets married that young in the US).

You will not be able to get a job. (but why? because if you're under 18 you need a working permit, these are issued by your high school, which you will not be able to attend).

You probably think you have enough money saved... you don't (I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you're planning on living on your own in a city, plan for at least $30,000 a year needed in income)

You will not have health insurance.

Most states REQUIRE you to have health insurance.

So you will not be able to go to the doctor if you get sick.

If you are found on the street or picked up by the cops for any reason (likely if you are young and wandering around a city) you will be deported, and possibly questioned about terrorist activities because that's what goes down over here.

Oh boy the list goes on and on.

But let me also say I admire what you're doing. If you don't want to be in the country you're in then find a way out. All I'm saying is you've set your sites a little too high on this one man. Until you're 18 don't fucking bother in the US. As a minor you have NO RIGHTS, legit, let me restate that NO RIGHTS you can't do fucking ANYTHING because everyone is afraid of getting sued over here.

If you can find someplace to go before hand like someplace in the EU where you could travel and live for a while to get you out of Estonia then when you turn 18 come here, you'll have a much better time of it and it will be MUCH easier to try and "lay low".

SirRuben has given you excellent information... listen to it.

So do it. Go to Hollywood, get married at 18(Which almost noone does there), and once you suffer a crippling divorce and fail in the movie industry, you can com crawling back to your parents or friends in Estonia and beg them to let you live with them until you can get a job. If you make it big, you can rub it in my face.

I've lived in America for 5 years(my father was a diplomat), and I can tell you that it IS overrated. You will have a hard time integrating - after living in Latvia for three years, I can tell you that every time I see an American I think them very naive. They go around, flaunting money, talking loudly and making known the fact that they're american - I know all Americans aren't like this, but many are, in the U.S. too.

Also - no nationalised health service. Not good. Watch SiCKO by Michael Moore. All I'm saying is that you have too high hopes for the American dream. If you really want to get out of Estonia, go to a cool European country like France, where many of the students are left-wing and liberal. Not to mention cool, especially those revolutionary types.

Yeah, but it's still overrated. It's not all beautiful and chic and intelligent and beautiful. In California, Los Angeles especially from what I hear, it is polluted, has lots of crime, lots of drug problems, etc. If you go anywhere in California, go to San Francisco.

i'm not saying anything about your age, but you're not mature enough to live on your own, or to respect other people, or even respect you,
go to US, live your holiwood dream,
i hope you'll grow up some day.

i like how the OP isn't backing from his dreams. props.
seems like good advice. i don't know much about the subject. i am a u.s. citizen and interestingly kind of want to move out of here sometime.

i would go with the other's advice as somewhere in the EU or Canada. They'll be amazing experiences regardless and may help your chances of getting into the U.S.

Now, I would like to say that the U.S. is overrated, and that a lot of Americans do have it tough unless they're pretty rich. Now if you're rich anywhere you pretty much have an easy time. That said, it's a beautiful country with tremendous freedom, but I am noticing it slowly being taken away. it's kind of scary, actually... .....

    anyways, good luck
so i'd basically try somewhere in the EU, or if you want to get close to America, Canada is definately very close in standards and living style(from what i think)

I agree the kid is percistent, wich is very good.

Iv been to New York and Los Angeles, Los Angeles wasnt the place I Imagined. I thought I would see only nice cars, and hot model-like chicks.

But I mostly saw fat and short mexican women, and some homeless people.

I suggest you go and visit America. Not moving there, but visit it.

At first. What's so bad about Estonia and the Baltic States?

Yea, blah blah and so on. I'm from Latvia too and I can show the otherside of our live. None of the sentences in your post revealed the bad side of our situation, right? That we have a catartophic growth of inflation rate during the last decade since the 1996th and even earlier. You've not mentioned the fact that simple people here are suppressed and grabbed by the throat for every single little breach while the ‘big men’ of the country can steal and steal our taxpayers money and never be punished for that. You forgot that, right? I DON'T say that other people live in clover somewhere else but tell me, friend, WHY our mushroom and strawberry pickers don't come back from Ireland and England? Because they feel happy there finally. They don't have to worry that there are coming a day when you have nothing - no job, no money, no home and no people around you. And patriotism IS NOT the way to change this.

So, your father was a diplomat? Than I'm not wondering about your attitude. I guess you're well-provided, you don't have to fear about what you will wear on or how to get a really good education that you've dreamt about. Well I do. I'm not going to give up my dream just because it's not available to get the profession I want in Latvia and it costs a lot in other countries. I'll go away after high school graduation and I'll try. That matters to me. Not nationality. Not anymore. I love this land but I hate this nation.

As for Mojo I can say -
agreed, this is a very good advice but I can understand your longing for the US too. My best advice for you is to try. Grab and opportunity to get more information while it's posssible, the more the better and don't show off with your decisions so much. Consider your dreams, possibilities and your actual needs before taking this step. If US won't work for you, there always stays EU. You already know my opinion - the film industry works in EU too and sometimes it's even better...

*Hah, Aladdin, that one about Tallinn and a real city was good .

Its thrue, everey time I was there I thought, "how can you live here".

If anyone want to get a break from the city and relax in a small town, I suggest the Metropolis of Estonia...

They have realy good glass stuff for a good price, everey other store there sold glas things. Like if it is a major industry.

Downtown LA, Americas second biggest City.

Downtown Frankfurt am Main, Germanys 4th biggest city.

Why did I waste space with those 2 pictures? Compare them, see a diffrence? No? Exactly, America isnt that much of a diffrence from Europe.

Those "health insurance"s dont realy help, see Sicko by micheal moore. In Europe we have free health care for all.
I bought aspirin in America, it was mostly empty, and some cotton taking all the space, the medicine isnt very good in America either.

That's an amazing reference. I'm glad you're going to wait Mojo, you'll be able to actually have a chance at making your dream happen if you do.
