Hi all. I'm currently in unbareable pain because my entire body is itching and burning. I have an appointment for allergy testing on Tuesday so I had to stop taking my histimine blocker (zyrtec) until after the test. I also cannot take benedryl. The only things I know I am allergic to are dairy and pet dander, but I haven't been around either things in months. I haven't eaten anything all day- just water- because I'm too afraid and yet my entire body is still red with sporadic raised welts.

Does anyone have any ideas for what to do to calm down the rashes, or at least make the itching go away temporarily? I've drowned myself in water to try to wash the toxins out, taken cold baths, and covered myself in various anti-itch creams but nothing has worked- and I have 3 more days of this to deal with it!

it may sound weird but oat meal works for itching and so does baking soda. If you use the oatmeal do it in a warm bath just but a couple of cups in the hot water. If you use the baking soda just make a paste with water. It could be that you are allergic to the soap that you use to wash your clothes. I have to use fragrance free and dye free detergent. ( just a suggestion)

I agree that using good high quality organic soaps, aluminum free organic deodarants, organic house hold cleaning products, and everything else organic, and that will make a big difference in cleansing your liver which contributes to allergies.

I would also look into the Medicinal MSM Lotion on www.sunfood.com and MSM for allergies in general.

I had broke out in a rash all over my body...there was absolutely no relief, did the Aveno oatmeal baths, cornstarch, etc...Finally I used gold bond medicated powder in the green bottle and it made me feel so much better. Didnt burn, but felt cool and relieved the itch. Try it out!

It's definitely food allergies. I wash my clothes in either vinegar or (if they're stained or especially dirty) fragrance free, organic detergent and my shampoo/soap is Dr. Bonner's unscented. Before I found out that I was allergic to milk and got put on Zyrtec, I thought it could have been my soaps and just kept up with the better stuff even when that wasn't the problem. All my lotions, salves, and powders are organic as well.

I'll try oatmeal, though I don't think there's much at this point I can do about my face and eyes itching. :( I've used goldbond before but it really did nothing... plus I think it has talc in it, which I don't use.

Wow that sounds great SilverClover. I also use Dr. Bronners Hemp Soaps..

Just curious, why don't you use talc? It sounds like something I probably wouldnt use but I'm just curious why you don't use that specifically..

I might try this product here.. http://www.sunfood.com/cgi-bin/order/index.cgi?id=27289469835&d=single&item_id=0710&c=Beauty/Self_Care&sc=MSM_Lotion&tc=

MSM is very cool and calming and anti-inflammatory. They also have an aloe-MSM gel, and if you can get fresh aloe plants and leaves, those are VERY cooling and anti-inflammatory(and rich in MSM actually)

Allergies, afaik, are partially the result of a congested liver. I would quit consuming hydrogenated oils if you do, or any trans fats and cooked oil...I would get on flax and hemp seed oil, and good organic olive oil too...Then I would start taking MSM internally...eat more organic fruits and vegetables, and look into herbs that are said to work on allergies. That would be my approach......

Do you know if you have gluten or grain allergies??? Or have you already been tested for everything??

I haven't been tested yet- that's Tuesday. When I first got the rashes, I went to my GP and she did a blood test that said I had a sensitivity to dogs and dairy and just slapped me with a medication (which might be a good thing.. while I'm out of the house now, my parents would rather get rid of me than the dog :p). Which is fine, it works well, but I would like to be off of it once I can figure out what exactly I'm allergic to. I suspect possibly garlic (I match point by point the garlic allergy list... which is horrifying since that's practically one of my food groups), soy, wheat, sesame, almonds (I had Dr. Bronner's Almond soap but it made my scalp break out :( ) , and eggs. But I haven't been able to pinpoint anything because I can just drink water for 2 days and still get rashes!

I don't use talc because there were some scary studies about how it can cause problems. Those were later proven wrong but it can still be bad for you if inhaled- and powder gets ALL over the air- so I'd just rather not have that in my environment since I'm really sensitive to chemicals anyway. Plus, I found a great family run company where I get my powders all organic so that's just a better choice for me. I do the South Beach Diet so I eat copious amounts of fruits and veggies. I get organic when I can, but I have no income and when you eat no grains, it's amazing how expensive grocery bills get. I try to buy at the farmer's markets near me but it's really rough on my budget. But yeah, I don't eat sugar, most oils and fats (occasionally use some olive oil to panfry, or olive oil spray.. and even more rarely use SmartBalancelite when required while cooking), high fructose corn syrup, or gluten. And I drink 3-5 litres of water on average a day, depending on what I'm doing.

Actually, I suspect my allergies mostly come from limiting my range of food and then adding on, though I don't know what basis that has. For 18 years, I only had typical hayfever. Then I went on SBD and only ate a few things for 2 weeks. Once I added back more foods as per the plan (1 new fruit and whole grain a week), I suddenly developed skin reactions though I didn't know that's what it was for 6 months. I stopped SBD when I went to college, but restarted again 2 months ago, which is when my allergies flared up even worse. It's strange because in theory, I should have nothing bad in my system. I have read some studies citing the "hygiene hypothesis" that since Western life is so clean and medicinalized, our bodies are thrown out of whack and we develop allergies. *shrugs* But other than that, I really don't know.

Did you try any creams for the rashes like, Cortizone 10? (over the counter)
I swear up and down Cortizone 10 is a lifesaver.

I am allergic to most of life, lol, and whenever I break out in a rash of some sort, Cortizone 10 really eases the uncontrollable itching and burning sensations.
