just wondering how your dreads knotted up...?

did they start getting tighter at the roots then work down, or tighter at tips and eventually get tighter up the dreads or did the whole dread just tighten vey slowly.

i know the latter seems most possible but i have like 40+ dreads and about 10 of them have like 2 inches of tight knottyness that looks like a proper dread, then the rest of the dread is basically straight hair lol. just wondering if my dreads will slowly tighten up further an further down the length of them because right now my head is just a mass of fucked up hair which i dnt rly let bother me. but..iv had my dreads for about 7 months which is a bit of a b**ch to be honest. its probz just because i had straight hair that was EXTREMELY silky and i didnt prepare for my dreads one day i just washed them with residue free shampoo then dreaded them. i also used wax for the first 3 months and didnt sleep on them so thats hindered the process ALOT.

iv pretty much dealt with the wax and i sleep on them now which only seems to mess them up more but i dnt rly care. just wondered if they will tighten up further down the dreads...

so..how did your dreads tighten up..??

    cheers

mine has mostly dreaded only a few inches down from the roots, I have a few fully dreaded bits and some not at all dreaded. I sleep on them, and they look goofy most of the time, but I don't care. crazy stuff :)

mine seem to be knotting up from the roots... and the tips, since i play with the tips a lot. but the middle areas seem to slowly be looping and figuring out how to be dreads :)

mine's knotty from the roots and then gradually becomes straight hair. On some dreads the hair it's actually knotted up to the scalp! And I probably have about an inch of new growth since I started dreading.

I think wearing it in a ponytail most of the time is to blame for my loose ends. That and I have really soft hair.

My dreads were done on jan 2nd 07 (while we were still hungover)
When I had them done they didnt want to knot up at all, it took alot of work for me to get them to the stage they are now, the person who did them had never done dreads before and im pretty sure she was just guessing. She put knots in them as well, knots like you would knot a shoe lace!!!
Anyway so after she fucked up my hair I undid most of them and started again over a few weeks, I had to wax them because they looked shitter than shit!!
They are still coming loose a bit but i have had enough of it so am leaving them, to have a party on my head!!
The tops of my dreads got really tight after I re-did them, like really really tight. My hair shrunk and stuff as well, then oneday I was at my mates and all of a sudden my hair felt longer and looser!! I thought one of them had fallen out but they have dropped down a bit, it felt soooo much better.
I have some dreads they are really knotted up, and look excellent

I've got 2-3 inchs of dread then it works its way down into straight hair. Used to rebackcomb it but to little or no avail. Left it for the past 3 months or so, about half of them started to knot up. Now i'm twisting and ripping them, works really well for the tips i must say..

mine are tight from about an inch away from the root, some almost all the way to the tips, some just a couple of inches, i really dont mind they'll make their minds up soon. i'll be kind of sad if i lose my loose tips though:'(
the hair on the nape of my neck is being really nortly though and hangs loose!

most of mine are dreading from tip to root, so the roots are naturally blunted (even though I actually like how loose tips look but whatevah).... I also have some that start/ed in the middle-ish and a few that started from the top.

it depends with mine. some are tight right up to the scalp, some are tight in the middle, and one is tight at the end. most are tight in the middle, or an inch away from the scalp. my ends are all basically normal hair right now. damn thin hair!

over the first 5 weeks mine have loosened up a bit, alot of frizzes going on but the locks themselves seem to be forming quite well, they've transformed...from some waxy sideshow bob looking things to crazy looking baby dreads. I have problems with some roots, if i wash them i can see clearly, that several roots are far from being dreaded, but it'll get aight over time i guess. at the moment i'm more worried about them getting flat, seems to happen more and more as they get looser, can't even palmroll some of them properly anymore...they just...fold and..twist?
