:rollsEyes: Obviously not me as I don't have kids but this shows internet addiction to the extreme... or video game addiction.... whatever.

I seriously cannot believe some people sometimes. Wonder if they even have a brain


Internet Obsession Blamed for Neglect

RENO, Nev. - A couple authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect.

The children of Michael and Iana Straw, a boy age 22 months and a girl age 11 months, were severely malnourished and near death last month when doctors saw them after social workers took them to a hospital, authorities said. Both children are doing well and gaining weight in foster care, prosecutor Kelli Ann Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of child neglect. Each faces a maximum 12-year prison sentence.

Viloria said the Reno couple were too distracted by online video games, mainly the fantasy role-playing "Dungeons & Dragons" series, to give their children proper care.

"They had food; they just chose not to give it to their kids because they were too busy playing video games," Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Police said hospital staff had to shave the head of the girl because her hair was matted with cat urine. The 10-pound girl also had a mouth infection, dry skin and severe dehydration.

Her brother had to be treated for starvation and a genital infection. His lack of muscle development caused him difficulty in walking, investigators said.

The Straws have been given public defenders. Jeremy Bosler, head of the county public defender's office, declined to comment to The Associated Press on Saturday.

Michael Straw is an unemployed cashier, and his wife worked for a temporary staffing agency doing warehouse work, according to court records. He received a $50,000 inheritance that he spent on computer equipment and a large plasma television, authorities said.

While child abuse because of drug addiction is common, abuse rooted in video game addiction is rare, Viloria said.

Last month, experts at an American Medical Association meeting backed away from a proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder, saying it had to be studied further. Some said the issue is like alcoholism, while others said there was no concrete evidence it's a psychological disease.

Patrick Killen, spokesman for Nevada Child Abuse Prevention, said video game addiction's correlation to child abuse is "a new spin on an old problem."

"As we become more technologically advanced, there's more distractions," Killen said. "It's easy for someone to get addicted to something and neglect their children. Whether it's video games or meth, it's a serious issue, and (we) need to become more aware of it."

 

Honestly.... the more I read that.... hair had car urine in it?! Starvation? Genital infection? Wtf.

So many people out there who be could parents and want to but have trouble conceiving and then there are fuckheads like this who should have their genitals cut off (yes, I'm prepared to be flamed for saying that).... no, they should have done to them exactly what they did to those kids. Selfish bastards. I don't get the mentality nor do I want to.

on a serious note, my ex husband did this, I saw it first hand and got my kids out of that situation as soon as I knew what was really going on. that bitch was so lazy I found out all he did was play grand theft auto and halo all day long, it got so bad he would play halo instead of taking our daughter to school (glad she was able to tell me that he didnt take her), he would also make her at 2 years old make her own sandwiches because he was on his lazy ass on the couch playing.


it is sad when the kids are too young to tell someone their situation, all I can do now is hope that he didnt scar them for life before they had the abilities to tell me what was happening!

 

Subliminal messages/Symbols are in video games,T.V,Music etc...But are probably more effective in video games and T.V cause you just stare into that shit and get lost.

 

Why wouldn't you wait to have kids if you were that obsessed with video games on the internet?

 

I can understand that situation, sure, it's easy to do, keep your mind trapped while your teeth are rotting out of your skull makes sense to me... so much easier to give up... sleep for every moment.

Having said all that i can only pray to God that having a child would wake me the fuck up like a slap on sun burn, those poor children wont stand a chance unless some one strong and loving takes them in... sad.

 

kids cry alot, but something about the starving to death cry shoulda got some attention, and the cat piss hair...I hope they get raped everyday they are in prison.

 

Yeah that would fix things! and all the good people could come to their cells and cut off bits of their body for fun, yeah mutilation and sexual abuse helps wasted shells of people understand the difference between right and wrong!
