zim is our (south africas) immediate northern neighbour and its on the verge of imploding thanks to bob mugabe. if zimbabwe was an oil producer and iraq not, would u.s. forces be occupying zim and would saddam hussein still be in power?

During the 90's, Americans were told that we are selfish for not wanting to
intercede to protect innocents in Rawanda. Or in Sierra Leone or in The Congo / Zaire.

We were told that the overthrow of Dictator Raul Cedras in Haiti by The US Army was a good thing!

We were told that intervention in Yugoslovia to prevent massacres was a noble and that The UN was not up to policing Bosnia or Kosovo. That Slobovidian Miloslovic and Gens Karadic & Malidic ( pardon the spelling) were conducting genocide and had to be brought to justice. ( no matter what The Russians had to say about it )

Now we hear that Robert Mugabbe is wrecking his country and we should get involved. I would like to blame the spoils system that is ruining Zimbabwe not the individual. And were is The UN ?

I'm looking for a litttle nuance here, not slogans.

Why should we stick our neck out if we are labled as evil incarnate because of what we want for The Iraqui's is the same as what we want for Somalians, Haitians, Bosnians and Kosovars?
