Every time I go to do a search on my computer, the windows installer pops up and freezes my computer. I've gone to annoyances.org to try and rectify the issue, gone through all the reccomended steps, and I'm still having this problem. Has anyone else had this before? And if you have any advice on getting rid of it that would be greatly appreciated cause this is a pain in the ASS!!! Thanks so much.

Ad-Aware is your friend. Linky poo.

It could also be a virus or spyware, so run whatever antivirus software you have (you DO have one.....right?), and make sure to update it regularly.

It almost sounds like you have a virus. I just don't understand the link between a search and an installer. Am I understanding it correctly that you can pull up the menu to do a search then you type what you're looking for, go to search, then suddenly something comes up and tries to install? Does it give you any indication of what it is trying to install? Perhaps you have your automatic updates turned on and it's trying to install one?
