Out of curiousity, who here doesnt have insurance? I don't. Also those of you in countries other than the US, what is it like there?
I won't have health insurance in 12 days and it scares the crap outta me. I am doubting my family will let me go without out considering I have pnemonia and just got over strep and am under a lot of stress right now because of huge changes in my life. I am hoping htey won't they're kinda cutting me off since I am getting married, which is scary because I have always been taken care of. Most of my family is in the UK and they have national health there so it's free and it's improved a lot from what I hear.
deviate, watch SiCKO, Michael Moore's new film...it shows you how France, England, and even Cuba handle their socialized health insurance. I currently have health insurance through my father's insurance, but starting on December 31, I will not and the insurance at my new job won't kick in until about April or May...
Everyone here in the Netherlands has health insurance. It is obligatory. And yes, our healthcare system is one of the best in the world.
I live in Canada. Beyond my universal health care coverage, I also have heath insurance to help with precription costs.
Well if that happens cant you get on your husbands plan if he has one since you are getting married? And I've heard about the UK system, but most of the things I have heard are coming from people that think the concept of socialism is bad under all circumstances. So they basically just talk about how much of a dismal failure it is. I have been wanting to see that and have been hearing a lot about it, thats what got me thinking about this recently. Does yours not carry over to your new plan? I really hope you stay healthy, or don't end up like me, 2+ years with no insurance. The corporate machine usually provides insurance but that is something I'm resisting, so I applied for an individual plan. Well apparently I was wrong to be honest on the app and include that I've taken antidepressants in the past. They must have assumed I would be this huge liability head-case, and denied me any insurance. So I said fuck it and have been my own health advocate since. Doctors are really only pushing their pills anymore anyway. I'm sure somewhere down the road I will be completely screwed with no insurance, but oh well. Yeah you are completely right. One of my professors was raving about the system in the netherlands. She said that in the US there are something like 30% of babies without immunizations, in the netherlands it was something like 1 or 2%. Apparently they give you a schedule when the child is born of when and where to take it for the shots. If you don't show up a nurse comes to your house to make sure the child gets the shots. Pretty cool man, pretty different. Canadas system is another one I have heard a lot of people talk shit about, once again ideological since they were "conservatives". The main complaint I have heard is the waiting lists for surgeries and stuff. I would probably prefer that though, healthcare shouldn't be so profit driven. The main positive I can see out of capitalism based healthcare would be progression of technology. But as we see it now the only thing they seem to be really focusing on advancing are the pharma drugs and their ever increasing lists of side effects.
I don't have health care insurance. Do I care? Not really. I pretty much think western medicine is a joke as it's dominated by people who care more about profit than making people well, and the only time I would need health insurance is if I got into some sort of accident or needed my appendix removed, which hopefully won't happen. I try to take care of myself so I won't have to worry about ending up in a death trap, I mean, hospital.
i dont have heath insurance, either. i'm usually pretty healthy but i need to go to the girly doctor soon.
i have it...i'm under my parents. though i did lose it while i was off school for a semester since i wasn't a full time student anymore...yea, what a pain in the ass to get back on...assholes at school piss me off
I have it and I pay for it myself. Do I need it? Most probably. I'm changing policies in 2 weeks to be on my school's policy... which is much cheaper. But yes... America is a big pile of shit when it comes to healthcare.
i have insurance thru my work,,but it sucks.. the only thing its good for is if ya goin to the emergency room.. glad its free or i wouldnt have it..
I had coverage until I was 18 and then my parent's plan no longer would have me....my last job gave it to us, but there were only certain places you could go and alot of stuff was not covered (and it was funny, because I worked for one of the largest hospital systems in the state)...oh and forget about being able to go to a holistic or alternative healer! They have Horizon were I work now, but I have not asked for it, I know what my boss has to shell out each month per employee and we are a small company......the only time I go to the hospital is if I am taken there by ambulance (you dont have much choice in car accidents) but I do spend the money to go to the "girly doctor" I dont mess around when it comes to that.....thankfully there are places you can go for quality care "down there" for cheap : )
Well I just saw sicko tonight. pretty good flick. The french guys treatment sounds like the best, chillin for 3 months in southern france.
canada here, with a health and dental plan from my uni to boost it up (lowerd dental costs was the primary joy there, but they also pay for part of my glasses when i need new ones) anyway. wait times are getting better and stuff, but im still unhappy with our system. its sooo big, sooo expensive, so ridiculous. and my aunt died (years ago) because of the wait time.. they couldve performed surgery on her cancer if theyd done an mri when they first suspected, instead of her waiting months to get in for hte scan
I just lost my health insurance and Massachusetts requires it now. It sucks because I suffer from a rare blood disease so I need medical attention regularly. Oh well...so far I've been lucky...
