Synth...help!!!

    Well....where to start. Uhhh...I know this will sound stupid but
    1)how does a synth work?
    2)do you get different sounds in an input device(Keyboard)?
    3)how do you hook one up??
    4)what are typical connedtions on one?(xlr ect...)

    HELP!!!!

    You need to read up on MIDI by the sound of it......that is if you want to hook up a synth to a computer. You'd need a MIDI interface, and special MIDI cables to do the job, along with appropriate software, depending on what you want to do.
    Cubase and Ableton Live are two popular programmes.

    How a synth works is complex and beyond my capacity to explain in a few words.
    A synth can be used to play in real time, or as a sample source.
