Know why, because most young people stop and ask what occupations pay the most before they even choose a school or career.

Most young people only plan on freaking out for only one week during Spring vacation, can't do more than that it might go on their transcript.

Hey if you plan your life in advance, you can't meet the day to day challenges. You think you can, but it's all fluff.

Enjoy those reunions where you all compare what you've accomplished and how much you make. Maybe you can hire some rapper to come entertain you.

You can all gather together and perhaps meet Al Gore, at one of your reunions. Won't that be special!

All you Yalees can visit with Kerry and Bush and rub elbows with the elite.

You're right. Well said. I wouldn't, however, place full blame on students. America breeds apathy and selfishness. Breaking free from that trend is one of the hardest things you will ever do. Instead of simply pointing fingers, each of us should step up to the plate and help educate others. I know I wouldn't be who I am today without the pushing of my professors and colleagues. :)

That's sounds like the thought of the day to me! It is refreshing though to meet people my age who are passionate about something that is not considered "a well sought after career" and choosing to educate themselves about it.

Yeah I feel you guys. There's so much more to life than being well-paid. I don't understand why some young people would rather work all the time when they can be having fun, cuz its really their only chance, they can work full time when they have to! Getting good grades and having a well paid job that will probably make you miserable isn't living your life in my opinion. Love and having fun are whats important to me.

I actually know a few ppl that went to top schools to become what I call "bean counters" aka "financial advisors" or "accountants" and 4 or 5 years out of school are still paying off loans that come out to be over 50% what they make in a month in their "great new careers"

well, I worked a slew of unsavory jobs and saved up the base chunk for school. debt and I don't mix.
I also worked through school, on campus and off, from the school newspaper (basically the real training for my career) to bartending to Ren faires, to swinging tie dyes at shows.
I shot a lot of freelance stuff for local entertainment rags, too, and was raising a young school age kiddo.
I loved the learning process and then immediately applying it.
I also needed to get a degree so I could continue to feed the kiddo.
J school was a great compromise: I'd never be a rich sell out, I got to meet all sorts of people and great kooks.
and my true job part of it is sculpting words.
I must have had spring break, but I bet I used it as intersession.
I was able to have a full out of the box life day in and day out and didn't need a "break."

now, I like my vacay to basically go back to school. Uninterrupted reading for 16 hours a day when we stay around home and mini trips when we have the cash to travel.

I don't need to recreate a past utopia when I have one in the making, and I think that was Woodstock Generation's message (I was born to the generation, late) in finality.

As for those who chose to regiment, their children have the chance to rebel.
And that is when change comes.
