Damn that sounds hella cool... I shoulda done that... to be honest, I didn't think the Peace Corps was still around...
^ an old co-worker of mine spent 4 years in the peace corps building irrigation in central america.. he said he was in a village that was not westernized.. they were still very true to their roots... he said he met a lot of cool people too.... as for the BA and such.. i don't really think its necessary.. if true.. peace corp is usually always looking for people to join.. theres a lot in this world that needs either fixing or helping.. without people getting killed in the process
why don't you google it and check out their website.. like any normal.. non-lazy person would do that wanted to join the peace corp
just realize.. that if you are seriously thinking about the peace corp.. there is a good chance you could be somewhere that has 1. no hot water.. or running water for that matter.. 2... a clean water source 3.. no electricity.. 4... hours away from the nearest hospital.. 5.. natives will more than likely laugh at you because of how you look.. yea.. no shoes and sandals in most non-westernized villages/tribes 6... maybe 2 or 3 people that also speak english.. and those are the only 3 people you could have contact with for a long time... like i said.. it's gonna be just as tough as the military.. probably even metally tougher than the military at times
The only requirements are to be 18 or older and a US citizen, but they have to accept you into it and generally won't without a BA or work experience. More information is available here: http://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?shell=learn.howvol.qualify I am going to graduate college soon and have been considering it as an option, so I have already looked into it and know some things about it. To further answer the questions you and others have posed: you get a little over $6,000 after two years and federal student loan debt is partially forgiven. There aren't great financial incentives.
im playing guitar hero atm and just posting in between songs so i figured you owuld know since you seem to know alot about it
same as being an officer...have to have a college degree or be pulled from the Enlisted ranks to go to the Officers school
the financial doesnt seem all that great.. but my buddy said he got about $400 or so a month.. and well.. when it costs maybe $5-10/mo to live there.. all that money piles up pretty well.. ya gotta take into effect the cost of living where you are plus.. im sure the experience out weights $$$ anyday
I forgot about that, but you're right. I don't think anyone joins the peace corps for the money, haha.
