everybody has their reasons, either they think dreads look good, or more natural, some do it for religious purposes, people have been inspired by a role model, a musician, friend, family member, and some just plain out dont want to mess with their hair when they wake up. me personally....i resemble a raccon when im bald, i found out that a massive fro just wasnt cutting it, and tight little curls are "cute" but i just wanted something different and more customizable...so yeah there ya go

You know they say people with dreadlocks are holding onto the past because lots of their old hair stays in the dreadlock and your hair has all sorts of information about your past in it. But I think Im quite the opposite. Last year and early this year I was facing a few personal problems and when I sorted that out I felt that I had grown alot from it. So really dreads for me symbolised change. I think It will take a similar reason for me to get rid of my dreads, because Ive became so attatched to them.

Oh god... they aren't a hassle at all...not compared to what I had to deal with before. My hair was a complete mess all the time, and that's part of the reason I decided to dread my hair... my hair would naturally start dreading quickly, and everyday I'd have to tear through it with a comb, hair ripping out, falling out... yadda yadda yadda...unless I straightened it, which took forever and a day and wasn't worth it to me.

To keep my hair looking nice, undreaded, I had to use LOADS of conditioner and product which costed me a fuckton of money and took too much time and patience.

Honestly, I've had my dreads almost a month now, and the only hassle was probably during the first week or so. Now I don't do anything except wash them, and make sure they are separated every morning and what not. Verrrrrrry easy.

But that's not why I did them. I've always admired dreads for one thing, and I also felt like it would be a wonderful change in my life... it's liberating, like it would be for a woman who wore a lot of makeup 24/7, to break away from that and go au naturale. It was more or less a symbol of my new found confidence in myself...

Mostly though, my hair just wanted to do it anyway, so I let it have its way :) haha

Change. Symbolism, Spiritual growth, breaking away from society's 'standards' and expectations - liberating.

What hassle? That's another point... there is no hassle.

i have been trying to change myself inside for a long time. i feel like making a change on the outside will help me grow as a person. everyone says dreads are a journey, and i am dreaded so i can take that journey.

dreads are 6 days old today and they are looking so awesome already. it has been a positive change for the better.

    Worth the hassle?

I have dreads because I can not be bothered to do anything with my hair. I just let it grow and it dreads all natural without me interfering one bit .
For hassle-free hair, get it dreaded naturally.

they are no hassle for me. it's an expression of myself, I guess, just my way of being me, rather than a carbon copy. I love the way they feel and smell, I love that they're part of me, and I love that I'll never ever look like anyone other than myself.

why do I bother? because doing absolutely nothing to my hair is freeing. Why would someone bother combing their hair. All the work of combing my hair didn't seem worth it to me. My hair looks much better making up its own mind.

It's no hassle at all. I used to have to comb my hair over 10 times a day to keep it from knotting up, and used conditioners and combs. I dont have to do a single thing to my hair now, besides wash it when its dirty.

why would you spend time brushing out your hair and keeping it neat if you can have dreadlocks and not do a thing and it still look awsome :) well im my opinion. i got them mainly because of rastafarianism, i researched it when i was younger, and really love the idea. and my locks.....

ive always thought they were beautiful and for me they symbolize personal freedom.
the past year has been one of change for me and my hair is just one of the ways i seem to show this outwardly. i dont think of it as projecting myself for people to see, it just sorta happens. i chopped my always long (dreaded) hair off last summer and it was the most freeing thing ever. now, im starting the locking process as things wind down a bit. im still in a total state of transition but not so much in a spiritual, personal sense.
i just couldnt imagine having undreaded hair though, its like this is how my hair is supposed to be. it sure as hell is convenient too, i hate hate hate maintaining my hair.

Im all dreaded up for different reasons
1 - because I went through this huge change of me from being 1 person to another!! And wanted to make sure other people knew I wasnt the same person (dunno if that makes sense)
    2 - I have always loved dreads
3 - never had the guts to get them until oneday I said "its time" and 9 hrs later I had HUGE hair
4 - I cant be arsed with my hair anymore
