I only know half the people on that list.

Mamas & Papas: Hippie in many ways... but also commercial.
    Allen Ginsberg: Beatnik
    Jethro Bodine: ???????
    Stupidass: ???????
    Mrs Peel: ???????
99: As in Get Smart? If so, between Beatnik and Hippie - Mod

Is it a trick question? Did I pass?

The beatniks were the precursors to the hippies.
Allan Ginsberg is a poet who popularised the idea of materialism (or rather the lack of it.) My old man has for decades talked ad nausium about materialism. In all those years he completly missed the point, the importance of human relationships.

Thanks for the replies.I was really trying to get a timeline of when the beats went to peacenik to hippie.Metamorphus.The Mamas and papas and Ginsburg I'm thinking belonged to both groups.I didn't take in account the mods(Mrs.Peel I presume).Ginsburg also saw the death of hippie with a funeral.Jethro ran around with a bunch of hippies until they realized Granny wasn't literally smoking crawdads...

The Beats were here in the late 40's and were deemed as hip/hipsters. They were mostly poets, writers, muscians and were the intelectuals, that dicussed world problems, thay too were anti-establishment.The Mods we way too rich to be anything but spend money-commercailizium(sp) the hippies came in looking for GOD and found drugs instead..it was a sipiritual journey.. I dont think it really died.. it just went home..

there was a group that lived in the dunes at Pismo Beach(40's-50's?)they were called dunies.I guess they'd all be called hippies now.In theory the hippies have been around for many, many years. It's just a new title for an alternative life choice.Don't know where I'm going with this, just free form thoughts...
