Do you think that coming out in high school is a bad idea?

    depends on the situation.

i didn't, but i know people who did. they didn't regret it; it all depends where you live.

Like mushie said, it depends on the situation.

Personally, i've made the decision to tell school friends after we graduate next year. But i've also decided to come out to my mum and sister late september (2 week school holidays start) and my father sometime later.

I've made these decisions based on because the people in my school act immature for their age, and gay's arent treated nicely at my school. And i decided to come out after we graduate because they'll be acting more mature about the subject, and if they still dont like me, i can go my own way and get out of the "gay hating" envrionment.

And i'm going to tell my family so i can get some support in the 'real world' and not just from the internet.

But it all depends on who you tell and how close you are to them, such as friends or other students at school, and the views your society have.

What are the people at your school like? Are they collectively pretty judgemental? If so, you might be better off waiting. My high school was full of homophobic, judgemental people who gossiped a lot, so it wasn't for me.

Or you might just consider telling only those who ask. You don't owe them, or anybody else a declaration of your sexual orientation. If somebody asks you that you think you can trust, or if you want to tell somebody you trust, tell them.

Thanks for all of the advice. People do gossip a lot in my high school, but there are a few gay people who are out and almost everyone treats them just as they do everyone else. I've told a few friends, but it still feels like I'm living a lie. I trust the friends that I've told, but there's always a thought in my mind that one of them could out me when I'm unaware, so that is one reason that I'd like to just come out myself.

^but it depends on your highschool. i would probably be verbally abused and outcasted for comming out in my school. we have a GSA for the g/b/l/t/q community, but they are treated as equally as the people they represent, which is terribly.
