ok, give me some credit here cos i'm trying to learn more about the fantabulous isle of New Zealand.

So in Australia we have this mythical creature called the Bunyip, which is from an aboriginal dreaming story as far as i know. Basically it lives in the river and comes out at night to eat your pets and kids. There are people who've sworn they've seen it walking about in the bush. These people also drink waaaayyy too much Diet Fanta and barrack for Port Adelaide. But what i want to know is if there is any New Zealandish equivalent? Do ya'll have monsters over there? or are you all quite sane? I'm praying for the latter option.

the taniwha (pronounced taan-e-faa) is not nessicarily bad though - as long as you respect and honour it, it may help protect your village. just don't get it mad...

Yeah I think some of the Maori stories/Myths we have in New Zealand are really good.

have any of the kiwis here watched Mataku? it translates to 'the quivering' and is a series of Maori-made programmes based on traditional tales of the supernatural. it's really good, kinda creepy and i think its on tonight, at 9:30 on Maori TV.
