They'll keep for awhile, but I can't say for sure how long; I'm sure somebody else knows. Anyway, keep them in a dark, cool place in an airtight container if possible. Putting a few packets of silica gel (the shit that comes with clothing to keep the moisture out) or another dessicant will ensure that they keep well.
My boss uses 1 quart mason jars and he vacuum seals them. He's had this half in his basement for 4 months now, he said. And they just keep getting more and more dried. Man, I really wanna buy some of those, haha.
ANy hardware store will set you up. I dont vaccum seal them but once theyre bone dry they stay that way. Ive had some over a year this way and no lose of potency was noticed.
Vacuum sealing a mason jar seems like overkill. But anyway, a paper bag, though a poor choice, is still better than a plastic bag, especially when it comes to fresh ones of any kind. I think I learned this by watching Rachel Ray or somebody once.
Taken from erowid: Once properly dried, Psilocybian mushrooms should retain their potency indefinitely. One collection of Psilocybe semilanceata from 1861 in England was analyzed and found to be fully potent. More recent experiments have shown mushrooms to remain active for at least 8 years when properly dried and stored.
It should be fine if it's only for four months. However, a jar is definitely preferable. Put in the silica gel packets regardless of what you store them in. Also, Rachel Ray is definitely the seductress of daytime television, unlike certain white collar criminals.
don't put them in plastic, i've heard they turn to mush..but maybe just if they aren't dried..I know they turn to mush if they are fresh in plastic
