I have a small batch of poppies I have growing, Any tips as to when to harvest them for peak content? I tried to cut one tonight and a very slight ooze came out, nothing like the pictures ive seen. I accidentally popped it off so I cut it open and it smelled very green still. I boiled it in a tea and have a very very mild relaxed feeling. Could be in my mind. ANy tips as to when to be able to tell when to harvest would be appreciated.

your crop was a waste of time, you're supposed to research before you plant, try it next year

Wait 3 weeks after the flower petals fall off.

im not being an ass, your poppies are a waste of time, you will get so little opium out of them because you think by dropping some seeds into the ground you can get good quantities/quality opium, please go read up before you try it

On the contrary. You can easily get opium from growing them and even from buying dried heads or pounds of seeds and boiling them down in acidic mixtures. Eventually opium will be there.

Anyway. After the petals fall off they'll look exactly as you've seen in the pictures. Wait a few weeks after that. The cuts have to be extremely shallow, just breaching the walls. Any deeper and the good stuff just seeps into the pod, as opposed to out. I think it's safe to say that when the crown curves up a bit, try it then.
