Is there anybody who likes Noir Désir? For those who have listened to their music... what do you think of it after knowing the killing of the singer's lover committed by himself? Do you listen to it in other perspective or do you still love it as before? Of course I'm against all forms of violence, but I do tend to separate those obscure things and the music. I mean, I consider what he did was horrible, and I condemn his act, but that's no reason to stop loving his music. Bertrand Cantat was a very singer/songwriter, and Noir Désir great musicians for conequence.
i think that the killing of his sister has nothing to do with his music , and i don't see why his private life should be of any interest to us , the listeners . i first found out about noir desir from "partisan" , the song they sing with leonard cohen . Their music doesn't strike me as magnificent but it's quite litstenable . I like "le vent nous portera" a lot more than any other song of them . it also has a nice video , worth seeing .
Yeah, they were quite strange. My favourite song of them is "Aux sombres l'héros de la mer", their very first single, I guess! About the topic stated here, I've always have been partial of separating what is the personal life of the artist with his art. It seems to me that four slaps would not kill anybody, the quality of the artist might be in use, since it was done to diminish the gravity with which there is received the fruit of his acts. A planned homicide, it would have turned him into such a mad man, and therefore possibly a dark icon of worship, a "black desire". But to kill his wife turns him into a beast, a bastard. We speak about domestic violence and it is one of the lowest crimes that an artist could have perpetrated. However, the main problem in this case is the ignorance of the facts that we cannot judge with full information, only for the limited information that comes to us and for the result of the judgment (judging by the resolution of it and of the sentence applied to Bertand Cantat there should have been something more than four slaps).
